no matter how firm
you feel your root,
the earth is shifting
below us, albiet slowly,
plates move and collide
with great tumultuous force

ferocious manifestations of violence
go largely unnoticed,
you could watch intensly
for an entire lifetime
and not percieve
the slightest creep,

when I gaze upon mountains
I see long scars upon the earth,
reminders of epic battles past,
if they're young in deep time
I see clashing titans
in a deadly embrace,

you see, given enough time
conflict can create mountains,
like insurmountable walls to divide,
to keep us from connecting
with the other side

but given more time
all hills are scaled,
all peaks are ascended,
passes are found
once traversed they become
monuments of majesty

standing atop a mountain is magnificent
you have reached
beyond the point of conflict
all sides
clearly seen,
re-unified,
whole
