I think that music is used differently today than it was in the past. Instead of people thinking of music as a specific object to be purchased and played in limited capacities, music is now inescapable. It's in our heads when we run, work, sleep, eat, watch commercials or sit in a waiting room and can conveniently travel with us in between, and it's the good stuff too, not just the elevator crap. It's evolving from a commodity that could speak to a mood to now being an almost invisible part of our way of life.
