"....After dinner, we stopped by a new venue in Parkville, The Factory, on Bartholomew Avenue in the old Trout Brook Brewery and Spaghetti Warehouse. The Factory is a magnificent old brick building, with two separate rooms for DJs, a pool room, area for lounging, and a decent smoking patio. It´s currently the home of everything from Hot 93.7´s hip-hop/reggae Hot Club on Fridays to the newly expanded indie dance-o-rama, Shag Frenzy, this Saturday, July 15.
Last weekend featured the launch of CRUX, a new addition to the area´s exploding drum ´n bass, breakbeat, and electronic scene that includes regular nights such as Threshold at Sully´s, Frontline Fridays at the Oxbow Café, and We Won´t Stop Wednesdays at Zen Bar in Farmington. CRUX is the brainchild of Call to Arms, a multi-faceted dnb production company with a great group of varied DJs on board and a devoted following who put in a good show for the inauguration of the event.
Edie´s been grooving on drum ´n bass on Sirius satellite radio lately (without knowing what it was called), and the mixes at CRUX were tremendous. And loud. So loud that one of the porcelain sinks in the ladies room was shaking on its foundation in time to the beats in the main room.
But it was terrific in its earth-shattering beauty, and the drink specials and psychedelic patterns on the plasma screen behind the DJs only boosted the excellent vibes.CRUX features different styles of drum ´n bass at the Factory on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month at the Factory, 45 Bartholomew Ave., Hartford. Check myspace.com/calltoarmsdnb for specifics. The Fernwood Restaurant is located at 1113 New Britain Ave., West Hartford. "
