Let's get one thing straight right away; this record is an absolute
gem. Amidst a sea of drab acts all trying to repackage and sell the
same idea, Milwaukee's Red Knife Lottery stand out like an untarnished
beacon of originality shining through an endless storm of grey
uniformity.
Treading a fine line between the sultry chaos
of The Yeah Yeah Yeah's, the raging anthems of latter day Poison The
Well, the goodtime grooves of The Gossip, and attacking their songs
with the shorter, faster, louder approach of Black Flag, RKL are a
virtually unique proposition that should have tattooed hardcore kids
and neon clad indie scenesters alike tapping their feet to the same
tune in no time. In female vocalist Ashley Chapman there lies talent
and true star potential to become a Karen O or Beth Ditto for the
hardcore generation, and, if there's any justice in the world, standout
single 'Junkie Jazz' should be all over the radio and club playlists
within the year.
Enough talking. It's brilliant, that's all you need to know. Go buy.
