I've been feeling more insecure even than normal about gigs. This year is a lot slower for me than last year. Last year we had a weekly steady at Pres a Vi for several months. They just pulled the plug on their music program.

This year our weekly steady at Prima ended, after almost five years. They got rid of their piano and remodeled the bar, so that gig seems to be good and gone.

There was lots of talk when we left about having us back for special events, but they haven't responded to my follow-up on that.

I was stoked when the Black & White Ball wanted to hire us, but they went silent once I sent them a contract.

We played Jupiter last week and had a ball. They are cutting back their live music though - gonna be DJs, Thurs-Sat.

I've had several corporate gigs fall through. In fact, it looks like my calendar for the next couple months is the slowest it's been in five years.

uh-oh.

On the upside, we had a great gig at Downtown restaurant in Berkeley on Saturday. We had fun and the friends who came enjoyed themselves.

Hi Kurt, has the situation improved since May? At least Armando's is there to take up some of the slack. Your music is really good, whoever you're playing with that night. You've gotten me to go to House of Shields many times when otherwise I would have just taken a look around and then left. And Cato's is good, but knowing you're playing there on the last Wednesday of the month is what gets me to go (and deal with the madness on Piedmont Ave!). And sure, Armando's is right in Martinez and I'd want to check it out anyway, but knowing you're going to be there, I mark it boldly on my calendar and ask around to see who can go. (Last time I was going to bring a neighbor but she felt sick that night.)

I told Dave Mehrwein and Ron Fujie that by gigging and giving music lessons, you've managed to avoid the 9-5 grind all these years, and they were VERRRRRY impressed by that.

Hey John -

Yeah, things have picked up some. There are some good developments - the CDs have been selling in Japan, a Japanese lable wants to license another track - this resulted in some welcome CD slaes and income, and I hope to have the third CD out in a few months. Also we will be back at the Boom Boom Room for our third show there next Tuesday.

Thanks for reminding me of all the good things that are happening!

I remember you said recently that it's been a little slow.

But -- I told Dave Mehrwein and Ron Fujie that between gigging and giving music lessons, you've managed to avoid the 9-5 grind, and they were VERRRRY impressed.
