I'm sometimes ashamed to be known as a Christian. Not because I am ashamed of being associated with Jesus Christ, but becuase "Christian" has come to be defined differently by so many people. Often it has become the default religion for English-speaking Americans (see MySpace's label "Christian - Other"), but it's original meaning has been neutered. It doesn't just define a monotheist, or someone who believes that there was, in fact, a man named Jesus Christ who lived 2000 years ago.
Since the term "Christian" holds such inconsistencies, I like to refer to myself as a "follower of Jesus". 'Nuff said?
