“Everything about this band screams epic, providing a welcome counterpoint to so much Canadian politesse.”
- Martin Turenne, Exclaim

“The Summerlad are making music so exciting and refined that I am able to forget all about my whole local/non-local distinction (which hopefully doesn’t make me seem like an ass).  Thank you Summerlad.  I love you . . . so, so much.”
- Brian Milne, Vox

“Unlike other bands playing in the same sandbox, The Summerlad don’t sound overtly retro. It sounds wide-eyed and alert. Wired, even. Commendably ambitious and remarkably engaging.”
- chromewaves.net

“The Summerlad seem to capture the intrinsic emptiness that comes from experiencing the prairies. The land goes on forever – you can’t judge your speed because there’s nothing flying by you, and whatever happens to be in your periphery is set way back in a field. There is no better way to describe this band other than a “prairie squall” – you can see the dust rising up, surrounding you and not letting you go.”
- Antoine Tedesco, sceneandheard.ca

“8/10”
- Lorraine Carpenter, Montreal Mirror

For City of Noise (2007)

City of Noise was performed for one night in 2005, and was met with critical acclaim and countless requests to perform it again. Instead of performing it again, the band disappeared for two years to record the masterpiece. The results are stunning
- intelligencer.ca

“A simultaneously highly conceptual and thrillingly accessible 40 minutes of music. Best enjoyed loud. Actually, probably best enjoyed live, but this’ll have to do in lieu
- Matthew Halliday, See Magazine

“City of Noise is an architectural marvel.”
- Mary Christa O’Keefe, Vue Magazine

“City of Noise sent The Summerlad’s hypnotic, driving music soaring into the realms of the majestic. A great way to top off the festival’s third week.”
- Martin Morrow, FFWD

For Themes International (2005)

To a song, the disc rewards careful listening by revealing myriad subtle, gingerly plotted rhythmic and melodic elements half buried beneath multi-layered, buzz-saw guitars and bottom-end drone.
- Chuck Molgat, Exclaim!

“This is Big Sky music from Big Sky country, a sonic kaleidoscope of arcing, yearning guitar sounds, vocal harmonies and stop/start dynamics of broad, almost cinematic scope. Yes, these songs can be challenging at times, but they’re also well worth the listen “
- John Kendle, Uptown

“A call to arms or the most stirring album of the year to date?  You decide.”

- Jill Wilson, Uptown
