I was holed up at the first rest stop east of Des Moines on I80 the night of the Iowa Caucus. I had hoped to get a little further east before shutting down that night as I had a load of potato flour that was due at a food processing plant on IL38 between Dixon and Rochelle by 1300 next day but I just ran out of hours. I had NPR on the radio as I was pulling up I35 and onto I80 and I liked what I hearing. The next morning's news really felt good.
Folks, just think about it. A bunch of whitebread, corn growing pig farmers jumped up and said "Yep, I wanna send that there black moslem boy there to the White House cause I think he can make things better". Well I'll tell you what, I think there just might be hope for America yet. What was it MLK said about judging a man by the content of his character and not the color of his skin? I just wasn't sure I'd live long enough to see it happen.
Don't get lazy though. The Corporations and PACS sure won't. They are gonna go after our boy with every thing they got now. Iowa don't make the whole race but it did show us that we have a good chance of winning. We're gonna have to roll up our sleeves and open up our wallets to keep the ball rolling. Talk to everybody you know and then get out and meet some more people to talk to about Obama. Your future, your Kid's futures and the future of America depend on it!
If you live anywhere where the "Stars and Bars" are plastered on the windows of pickup trucks then get yourself something with the "Obama and Bars" flag on it. We have to get people in the South thinking. For far too many elections the South has gone Republican while the jobs keep going overseas and the corporations keep screwing us. Shock em, piss 'em off - whatever it takes to get them to open their eyes and start thinking about putting someone in the White House who is on our side for a change!
Keep the rubber side down, Larry
