April 27, 2009 - Monday
I had a really great weekend, and planned to share some of it with all of you, and maybe even tease a little bit of upcoming "Impact" for you.

I got home around midnight, and was looking around a drawer for something - a pen, a piece of paper, I guess it doesn't matter. I ended up finding a folded piece of paper with some phone numbers on it - which is usually what I do with my phone messages. Fold them up, put them somewhere, answer them sometime. Except that this paper had a number that I never got around to calling. It was a call from Andrew Martin.

I once told Test that if I didn't like him I wouldn't waste time in my books ribbing him. He knew I liked him, and he was actually one of the few guys I kept in semi-regular touch with when I wasn't regularly around the business. The calls never seemed that important - he'd tell me he had to "take a Foley" and I'd tell him to make sure to "wipe your Test". But before he hung up, he'd always say "bye buddy". Looking at that number on the folded piece of paper now, I sure wish I could have heard him say it one more time.

I feel the same way when my Grandfather died last year On Dec, 24. It sucks when you have so much to say and that person is in Heaven, But that in itself is the best thought you know. And having funny memories of that person. Test was a great wrestler I think he worked better as a Heel which I like better myself. Of lost comes hope of a Nice day. I belive We both of both our losses the future will always look brighter.

Its cool though that he did KNOW you guys good friends and could rib each other for a few laughs and not take it seriously it was just having fun at each others expense. I can imagine how you feel, we all wish we had that one last moment to hear someones voice or to Offically say goodbye, and like always we seem to Always put it off until another time and unfortunetly alotta of the time its too late to have that moment again. Hearing this was very sad, hope your doing alright Foley. I just want to say THANK YOU Mick for everything you've done and are doing in Wrestling and even the cool memories i have from meeting you twice at those comic conventions.

Sorry for your lose Mick, I cant pretend I knew the guy, I really saw something in him as a performer, I thought now that hes gone from WWE and on his way to TNA maybe hell get his break out chance, even befoire he left WWE he was coming along. It sucks when guys leave us so young.

hey mick,

maybe Test was sending you a message from beyond by you finding that particular piece of paper. one last "bye buddy" from him. take comfort in that and try to make sure it doesn't happen to another great wrestler. we've lost too many in the last few years and you are in a position to guide those left.

Mick, I know it's tough for you to lose a good friend. In the wrestling business, as in the military when I served, you make a lot of close friends and wish you could keep in better touch...my condolences go to you and to Test's family.

Mick...

That is TRRRIBLY SAD and IRONIC, but DON'T let anyone else or try to tell yourself that IF you had been there to take that call or had returned it...that ANYTHING would have been different!

Like "someone" once told me..."If it's MEANT to happen...it WILL happen...NO MATTER what ANYONE does or says about it.".

I have found this to be TRUE on MANY ocassions and in MANY instances!

Those of us in the business will miss Andrew for who and what he TRUELY was...a NICE and extremely talented guy!

Rest In Peace, Andrew "Test" Martin!

And Mick...YOU are STILL the GREATEST!

That's so sad. It sure makes you realize that once someone's gone, there's no bringing them back, and you should always cherish the time you spend with the people you love. Those memories are what gets you through in the end.

Great One

When I had first heard that he had passed away the first thought I had in my mind was your writing about him in your books with your unforgettable zingers. Actually it was the story you wrote about the time you ribbed him by switching up a promo you guys were doing....it was over the top and quite obvious that it was a joke, but he still kept asking if that's what your lines were. And he insisted he liked that version better then the way it was supposed to go.

My condolences to you over the loss of your friend.

I keep having to remind myself that Test is gone. I feel bad for you, Mick; you have to have a lot of strength to lose so many friends over the last couple years. Still, with my own losses, I've always looked at the good and it really helps out. The sting never quite goes away, though.

Certain farewells can be harder than others.

When we are to part with friends and know in our hearts that somewhere in the future that we will meet again, the farewell can be bittersweet.

But if we are to part for an uncertain period of time from a loved one, the farewell will take on a different dimension.

As one unknown author aptly says, "The reason it hurts so much to separate is because our souls are connected.
"

That's because the heart so much refuses to let go, and that's what makes it so much harder to let go. The long days of absence of a loved one simply makes the heart squeezes in pain and the tears to fall uncontrollably.

One mor gone, way too soon... As a former performer (although never on that level). I understand the pain that drives one to pills. Thank you Test, say hi to our fallen brothers. Thanks Mick for a wonderful story that reminds us, life is too short.

What really bothers me is that a group of people that live their lives in front of the camera, and basically destroy their bodies for our amusement, most of them seem to die early on in life, or lead lives that are very complicated later on... The list is much too long, and I'm afraid it's just going to grow longer... Test will be missed, along with all of our hero's that have been struck down in the world of sports entertainment...
