Yes, the Tweak and Tweet Connection - that's what they're calling us following that big "Furley Promo" on Impact. Actually, I think only one guy called us that, but I'm going to take it and run with it.  I sure hope I come out of Sacrifice OK, uninjured and still in possesion of the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, if just to do more cool things with JB in the Founder's office, which sure looks like my office now.

I've been watching some of my old matches, trying to get that "eye of the tiger" back.  It's been so long since I had to put together multiple main event matches, that I need a little help. A fan gave me this video tape about 10 years ago, just a variety of stuff from the old ECW, to indy matches and Japan from 1994 and 95, and some early WWF (yes, I actually called it WWF, because that's what it was) stuff from 1996.  My son Hughie was actually shocked that his dad beat the Undertaker, having been under the assumption that his dad was a "stinky wrestler".  I certainly worked hard in those days, even on the indy shows, especially one in Vegas where Sabu and I wrestled all over the venerable Silver Nuggett casino, including a piledriver on a blackjack table that could have gotten us killed in a better casino, with all those gambling chips flying everywhere. My daughter looked at me at one point in that match and said, "is that why you walk so slow now, dad?"  So, I hope going back in time reliving the days when I gave it my all every night will have a positive effect on my performance Sunday.

Just a note about Playboy Buddy Rose, who passed away a couple of weeks ago. I didn't know Buddy real well; I think I may have met him only twice in my career. .But I will always remember the first time I met him - backstage as a guest of Shane Douglas at a WWF show in the Nassau Colliseum.  I'm guessing this was around late 1990, early 1991, when Shane had gotten his first shot in WWF, after putting his Dynamic Dude days were behind him. Shane brought me into the dressing room, and some of the guys were polite, if somewhat unenthusiastic about the guy in the red flannel shirt. Until I met Buddy Rose, that is.  Buddy actually jumped up out of his chair, shaking my hand , talking about my matches he'd seen.  "These other guys don't know", Buddy said. "Because they're always in the gym.  But brother, I've seen your stuff. The elbow off the apron, the clothesline over the top...I don't know how you do it."  Then he walked me around the room, introducing me to guys I'd been watching for years, endorsing me, talking about how they should find a spot for me. He even went out of his way to talk me up to Chief Jay Strongbow, the long time WWF mainstay, and road agent for the night.

Sure, it may have taken another six years for me to get my foot in the door at WWF, but it sure wasn't for a lack of enthusiasm on the part of Playboy Buddy Rose. Just a few weeks ago, following a TNA house show in Louisiana, I made my way back to the hotel, and even though it was very late, headed to the hotel workout room, trying to build up a little endurance for my big match at Lockdown.  ESPN Wrestling Classics was on. That name is usually a little misleading; even as a huge wrestling fan in college, I found the AWA show to be a little plodding give or take a Hennig/Bockwinkle match here or there. On this night, however, the show lived up to its billing. It was the tremendous Rose-Summers/Rockers match, the one that really made Michaels and Janetty as a team, back when I saw Marty as the potential breakout singles guy.  I had seen the match way back when, but I was too young to really appreciate it. But so many years later, on an eliptical trainer in a hotel in New Orleans, I certainly could. I appreciated it , and I enjoyed it; constantly thinking to myself, "man that Buddy Rose moves good for such a horrible looking guy."

Hopefully, fans will be saying the same thing about me on Sunday night.

I have no doubt that you will put on a good show on Sunday! :)

Thats a really cool Buddy Rose story i wish i knew more about him. He sounded like a cool guy. I hope you have a awesome match at Sacrifice i'll be ordering it :) Can't wait to see what happens i hope you hold on to the TNA title, I'd say to just take it easy out there Foley, but you wouldnt be the HARDCORE LEGEND if you took it easy, have a great match and try not to get too banged up.

Good luck Sunday Mick. As a fan of all your work, while I have always enjoy your comedic performances, I'd love to see more of your Cactus Jack persona in TNA.

Later man

Mick, I've never seen you in a match that sucked...and I doubt you'll have one any time soon.  In one of your last blogs you posted a video where you told Edge that the only person who could help him in the ring was Edge...now listen to your own words...The best Mick Foley IS Mick Foley!  Go in, kick butt, stagger back home with that title, and celebrate with your kids.

Much Love

Buddy always seemed jovial. He was a legend in Portland. His legacy lives on now through your recollection of what a nice guy he was. I wouldn't have known this otherwise. Good luck Sunday. The buildup has been excellent.

Mick in my opinion you never lost it to begin with. I loved your match at Lockdown and I have no doubt you'll bring your best at Sacrifice.

Just don't do anything to crazy lol.

I forgot to add, watching alot of Buddy's stuff from Portland and the AWA it's a shame most people will probably only remember him as the guy from the Blow Away Diet (which btw when I was a kid I was sad when I found out it wasn't real and wouldn't work). Buddy Rose should be the blueprint for every shall we say big but light on his feet wrestler. If I could wrestle, I'd want to have a character like that. His 1983 "I'm Coming Out" promo video with him in Hawaii with the two chicks is tremendous. Wrestling needs more promos like that.

Hey Mick if you want to get the Eye of the Tiger back, I personally suggest watching your match with Paul Orndorf from Superbrawl 3. Next to the match with Michaels at IYH, that was always my favorite match of yours. Personally I think you've been on a roll the last couple of months in TNA and I can only hope it continues with what you are doing now. As for Buddy, it's a shame youtube wasn't around in the 80's and 90's because alot of his Portland stuff would have been fun to watch as it happened for those of us not in the market.

Hmm.. I really don't know what to say as everyone else has already said it before me here in the comment section. It's always a cheer up to read your blog and I cross my fingers for you on Sunday

Ohh btw, it can be a little bit hard reading your blog with the TNA logo in the background. Maybe you can make a box around the text and have the background move behind it so it doesn't disturb the reading

Greetings from Sweden

Good luck for sunday, got to check out the uk sky tellybox to see wot day there showing it here. Luv the fact we don't have to pay for TNA ppv's here in the uk. Try not to damage yourself too much or loose too much claret.
Don't want to b picky but the white writeing on the TNA background is a tad hard to read.

this was one of the best blogs i've read in quite some time.. really kinda sheds a light on the ol' playboy that many of us didn't get to see.. it is obviously being appreciated in great volumes by the fans, i know i'm including myself there..

but now i'm wanting to go watch mind games from '96 for some reason..

good luck sunday, mick.. give 'em hell (or, if hell is inconveniently double-booked, give 'em denver)..

By the way, I just saw the Russo sleepover clips on Spin Cycle from after Lockdown...great stuff, not to mention the airport interactions.
Would it be fitting to have JB follow you back after this next PPV as well--whatever the outcome may be? Might be a nice follow up to where Foley's head is at these days in TNA.

Great Blog Mick!

Personally I'm always confident that you can put on good matches. Very few guys know how to tell a story as good as you in the ring. If you do that and just do what you have been doing in the ring over the last few months you will be fine. To get yourself pumped up you can go watch yourself against Orton from Backlash 04 or some of your HHH matches from 2000. I watched some of your Stone Cold matches from 98 recently and there also very good. As for multiple main event matches, go watch Vengenace from 2007. I thought you performed well in that match and this match will probably be simliar situation. I wish you luck and hope that you don't get to banged up and I hope you also walk out the match as the World Champion. Because another month of Foley as champion is just flat out great tv.

you've always stole the show to me, I remember I saw you live at WCW TV Taping in Montgomery, Al I believe where you came out of the crowd and took out Vader, Harley Race and Paul Orndorff with a shovel, loudest pop of the night!  I think it was around 92

Awesome Buddy Rose story.  You're going to do great on Sunday, and I'm hoping you're going to win.  I met you in January, and it's a shame I never got a proper chance to say hi, as we were being moved down the line so fast.  It's great to see a main eventer that is still humble and polite.  Hopefully I'll be able to give you a proper hello next time TNA are in Britain.  I'm glad you're getting the chance to have another run as Champion.  No one expected it to happen, but it's just what we needed.  Good luck in your match

I'm sure your match will be great on Sunday.  I'm looking forward to it.

That was a really sweet story about Buddy Rose.  His passing certainly hit Marty Jannetty very hard, and I imagine there are many others who feel the same.  I've never heard anyone speak ill of him, he was so well liked.

Hey Mick, congrats on being on top again. you and the Stinger are two of my all-time favorites. I enjoyed the match you two had as much as the two I watched as a kid. I think you two managed to capture some of that wild atmosphere that the old matches had quite well. It reminded me of an old school cage match.

As someone who wants to wrestle, you've provided me with plenty of inspiration over the years. Seeing as how I don't really make it to autograph shows or things of that nature I thought I'd post that here where you might see it. Good luck at Sacrifice.

I have always been a fan of yours.  At first, I was kinda shocked to see you in TNA a few weeks after the Edge thing.  However, it's a great gain for TNA.  Congrats on winning the title.  Good luck tonight.

TNA is fastly becoming bigger than the WWE.  I've always enjoyed that crazy, unpredictable style that you've had.   Keep up the great work in TNA.
