Who Gives Kudos:

November 10, 2009 - Tuesday
I think this posting would be better suited to a tweet, as it is kind of a random thought, but I wanted to take just a moment to highly reccomend the new Disney movie, "A Christmas Carol" to anybody and everybody with any interest in the Dickens story, the Christmas holiday, or just an appreciation for incredible movie making.

My children kept trying to figure out why their legendarily thrifty dad was insisting on spending the extra money to see the Imax 3-D version (no, Brother Ray and Brother Devon are not in the movie) instead of the plain, or non-Imax version. But, if you happen to have the extra cash, see the Imax film. It's breathtaking, the technology is mind-blowing, and the imagination displayed is so incredible that I found myself laughing out loud at the sheer majesty of it all. Two thumbs way the hell up from the Hardcore Legend.

We will be rescheduling the November 13th Middletown show, to an undetermined date due to a travel conflict. Sorry about that to anyone who had tickets. I will try to get a little footage of the Worcester show up in the next couple days.

I most definitely want to see the new Disney Vesion of "A Christmas Carol"! I hear that Jim Carrey does a wonderful job as Scrooge AND the Ghosts who visit him as well! And I imagine that the IMax Version is truely spectacular!

"A Christmas Carol" has always been one of my favorite Christmas movies...especially the Alistar Sim verson!

And Mick...I would love to come and see your Stand-Up Comedy Act! However, living in Northern California (Marysville...40 miles north of Sacramento) makes it extremely difficult to get to the East Coast for one of your shows! lol

Do you expect to bring your show to a venue in Northern California at any point in the future? If so...I will most definitely be there!

THANKS!

Michael

Again? Did you go to my talk at MIT a couple of years ago? No, sadly, I won't be on that show. I hope you have fun if you go, though.

I saw the non-Imax 3D version. Loved the movie, but the experience for me was pretty awful. The screen was too dark and I could see nothing. Guess I'll have to drive a few hours and check it out in IMax come Christmastime. Thanks Mick. (Btw I think you mean Buh Buh Ray and D'Von, sorry can't get past the ridiculous TNA thing)

Bet it's not as good as Muppet's Christmas Carol or Bill Murray's Scrooged.

Wow, it wasn't sold out when you went? My sister and her boyfriend have tried to go twice and the movie has been sold out both times. I want to see it though. It looks amazing as you said it is.

That's why you either need to go to a matinee or on a weeknight. There were only about 10 people in the theatre.

I really wanted to see it but I havnt had an opportunity to get around to it yet (that and the nearest IMAX is about an hour and a half away).

Also, Im a little disappointed after reading a review and finding out they pulled the fearful Politically Correct BS and had Scrooge yell "Happy Holidays" at the end instead of "Merry Christmas"...

Really? I didn't catch that, especially because there are so many mentions of Christmas throughout the movie.

Well I am not 100% sure on it since I didnt see it yet, just a review I read.  Personally as long as a movie is good, that is what matters (and like you said, it is one hell of a 3d IMAX experience).

I just get a annoyed when people take a dump on anyone saying "Merry Christmas".  It has always been something I say to people around Christmas time with the same well meaning as saying "Have a nice day" or "have a good one" any other time of the year.  Some people bite your head off for not being politically correct though, like you're forcing religion on them for just trying to be friendly...

Anyways, not trying to get into a Merry Christmas/Happy Holiday debate, hahaha.  Im glad you enjoyed the movie and I LOVE the Scrooge story.  I know you are a Christmas time buff, I'm curious what your favorite version of A Christmas Carol is?  Mine is George C. Scotts

And might I add, FANTASTIC promo on Impact last week (just watched it since I had to DVR it).  Im really enjoying your current interactions with Abyss.  I was just a kid during your Funk/Dreamer/Raven ECW stuff and it is making me feel that way all over again!

Glad you  liked the promo with Abyss. Yeah, I like working with him - it's alot of fun. Hands down, my favorite version iis the 1951 one with Allistair Simm as Scrooge. See it in the original black and white.

I havnt seen that one in a really long time.  The past few Christmas holidays I havent been able to get many movies in.  Actually I think besides The Homecoming (one of the best Christmas films of all time) I probably only get one or two in.  Id really like to focus on watching more of my favorites this year, Charlie Brown, The Grinch, It's a Wonderful Life and of course the clay animation classics.

So do you have an all time favorite Christmas movie?

I love 3-D films... I may go see it especially now my buddy Mick Foley recommends!

Hey Mick... wouldn't it be great if people could watch wrestling on the TV but in 3-D?

Imagine that!

I always like the story of A Christmas Carol in any form, My top would be Scrooged with Bill Murrey, Classic is always a treat too but I want to see that when it gets closer to X-mas. Right now i'm still in Halloween mode, then thanksgiving next week then dec 15 or so plans for christmas.Hopefully the movie shows the chrismas sprit and I would say 2nd favorite story is what Chrismas should be thought about more so than presents the nativity story,I would like to see more kids getting into that than the greed of chrismas the world has turned it to be. -Sorry Mick I had to rant that but kids today haha

I would love to see TNA verison of Chrismas Carol haha

Christmas Carol is my favorite Charles Dickens novel. Is the movie as close to the book as I've been told?

This new movie is very close to the novel-with the exception of all the visual effects that take the story for a ride now and then. If you want a unique version that is very true to the story, give "Mr McGoo"s Christmas Carol" a try. It's got some great songs, too.

Great One

Aww, man.  I hate having to choose.  I am one of those old classics kind of people.  I am afraid I would be very biased going into this movie, because I am such a fan of the old Black and White version. (From the 30's 0r 40's, starred Reginald Owen.  THAT Christmas Carol)  For some reason no one, NO ONE will ever top the original Holiday Movie Library of good cheer, in my mind.  I guess I will have to go into the theater with as best an open mind as I can muster, and try to keep it in perspective, it's a different kind of movie that tells a timeless story.

I saw the regular 3D version and was blown away.  I was hesitant to go because it is my very favorite book and didn't want it to be a poorly done version etc.  I was so glad I went.  It is done so true to the book and was truly a masterpiece.  My favorite is the old black and white version, but this was a very, very close runner up.  Was pleasantly surprised with this version
