so, there's been "orchestra6" at myspace for a couple of years now...and one of the first things i mentioned was the Adopt-A-Song™ project started by pär hällquist.
i knew pär from a couple of internet fora related to cubase-based DAWs...it seems years ago he wrote an entire musical, performed it (with full band and full cast) once only.
that performance was recorded, and i guess it always left him wanting to redo it.
so, he started the Adopt-A-Song™ project, enlisting musicians from the weird group of regulars who knew each other only in cyberspace, for the most part.
i chose one of the shortest pieces available, and set about trying different versions of a fairly familiar set of changes...
i found a local girl, brooke fleming, to sing the part...and soon after i found miriam berraissoul here on myspace, and i had to get her involved as well...
brooke and miriam both sang to different iterations of the tune, the only constants being tempo and changes...
pär intended to collect all the Adopt-A-Song™ submissions and release them as a full CD with booklet and all...as of this blog, the project is in the mastering stage. it is up in the air as to whether there'll be a CD...digital download has been discussed.
the link below will take you away from myspace to my own website...there's an embedded player that should start automatically...you'll need flash to hear it.
besides brooke and miriam, this track features myself on fretless bass and dobro, and joe 'numnutz' wilk on the guitar solo...
there exists a version without the guit solo...i may put it up later
