Being on hiatus means I get to catch up on a lot of home projects.  My latest project - trying to clean the upholstered white slip cover on my couch.  I've tried this before to lackluster results.  The cover is a white linen - stupid choice, yes, BUT I'm a girl and it's very girlie and pretty...when it's clean.

My fiance's family is coming for Thanksgiving and I can't bear for them to see the wine splotched, chocolate stained, dingy slipcover!  We recently fostered a little kitten who walked into our fireplace and then all over the white slipcover.  I have about a dozen perfect kitten paw prints covering 2 of the cushions.  Ha!  You can totally see the spot where I realized what was happening and swooped in to save the couch.  I looked online and a new slipcover is over a thousand dollars!  That's as much as the couch!

Now the good news:

OxiClean Laundry Stain Remover!  This product is AMAZING!  OMG!  It says that it gets out old stains - chocolate, red wine, grass.  I didn't believe it.  Why would I?  Products never do what they say they do.  THIS ONE REALLY DOES!  My cushions are like NEW!  It got out this one coffee stain from like 2 years ago!  I looked online and it gets great reviews.

All you have to do is spray it on, rub it a bit over the stain, wait and then wash.  I was very generous with the spray.  (I actually just ran out and have to get more.)

Anyway, I'm just so thrilled I had to pass it on.  Woo hoo!

Tomorrow I will be on The Bonnie Hunt Show so please check it out!

NOTE:  I just took my second set of cushions out of the washer and they didn't brighten up as much as the first set.  UGH!  I was running out of OxiClean so I wasn't as generous as the first time around.  This second set of cushions is actually a bit splotchy.  You can see where I sprayed and where I didn't.  I'm going to have to go get more of this stuff and re-wash.  Just wanted to give you the latest and greatest update on my cushion project : )

But if it stops working in the future, IKEA has slip covers that are not $1,000. :)

It is a special slipcover from Pottery Barn that specifically fits the couch.  Ugh.  I was going to order a darker color but I might as well just buy a new couch!  They are so expensive!

Be careful though with Oxyclean stuff though...I used it on my carpet where my cat had thrown up and it gave me a big bleached spot which looks ten times worse than the puke stain would have...it may have worked for you because your slip cover is white.

the Oxy-carpet cleaner says leave for ..? 5 mins or something but DON'T .... just spray and begin wiping immediately. This is powerfull stuff. Not only have I erased carpet stains but 6 months of post university just took a few sprays and wipes and yippie *wink*

You should be the new spokesperson for OxiClean now that Billy Mays is gone.

I can see it now...

"HI! JENNA FISCHER HERE FOR OXICLEAN!"

Think about it!

Because more often than not, paid people don't say things like:

"I just took my second set of cushions out of the washer and they didn't brighten up as much as the first set. [...] This second set of cushions is actually a bit splotchy.  You can see where I sprayed and where I didn't."

I LOVE OxyClean!  I have a teen dtr. that stains all her clothes...it works wonders!  But as Audrey mentioned...be careful on the carpet...I used it on my light beige carpet and it did bleach it whitish...but it has never done that to colored clothing...so I don't get it....not a chemical expert...lol.  On another note...I love you Jenna..The Office is one of 3 shows I ever watch!  Your whole cast is amazing!  Love you all!  Have a great hiatus and Thanksgiving!!!

I'll have to get that for my down comforter. The perils of living in bed!

So, you're a cat gal - what's the best way to get fur out from furniture? My cats aren't shedding so much as they are SHOOTING fur from their bodies.

get a hard wire cat brush and brush it daily ..... from furniture don't bother with the roll of tape --- get a good ''lint remover' and stroke your couches etc

How does this stuff work on just normal wear and tear dirt?  I have a white slipcover as well (IKEA), and it's just sort of dingy after two years of use.  I've washed it a few times, but even washing with bleach (which, actually, the slipcover instructions say not to do) didn't get rid of that grayish tint.  It's not super-noticeable, but I can definitely see it!

I use Oxi Clean on my carpets too! I have a carpet scrubber and I put a generous scoop in with the regular carpet cleaning solution It works wonders on my carpet! I have two little boys that spill juice and everything else and it cleans it right up! You can tell the difference when I don't use the Oxi Clean! I save so much money because I never have to have my carpets professionally cleaned!

oxiclean is the shiz, yo. i spill stuff on my clothes all the time.

i actually kind of miss those annoying billy mays commercials.

i had a kitten go into our fireplace... the first day we brought him home (we found him in an abandoned house) he actually managed to climb about 1/4 way up the chimney. and then fell into the fireplace in a big cloud of soot. lovely.

This won't help you clean your cushions, but if you have a hard time getting stains off hard surfaces, try those Mr. Clean magic erasers. I idn't think nothing of them until the company i work for decided to get some so we could figure out something we could use to clean the machines we work on. I was blown away by some of the pain in the arse stains it was removing. Machines I work on handle many colors of ink and there is grease and oil and glue and all sorts of knarly substances our machine requires, ant the magic erasers get them off. Lol i sound like a commercial
