Next Tuesday we will elect the next President of the United States. The result will have great consequences for the nation. This election offers a choice between two men with dramatically different visions of the future. We have strong feelings about this choice. But we feel even more strongly that all Americans, regardless of political preference, have a stake in the outcome and should vote in this critical election. This is likely to be a close election. Your vote matters. Please use it and make a difference.

I voted early 12 days ago and I too encourage all my countrymen to do the same regardless of whom they will be voting for. However, I would like to add a little food for thought;

I am becoming increasingly angered hearing people say they won't vote for Obama because he may be linked to terrorist organizations. This makes absolutely no sense.

Let's stop and think about it logically for just a quick second; If there was any real and/or valid link between Barack Obama and terrorist groups, the Democratic National Committee would have looked into it a long time ago and outed him immediately to protect the party, for if it was found they nominated a candidate with such ties as the head of their party they would never be able to elect another candidate to any office anywhere in America again, EVER!

Nominating a terrorist as the head of their party would be political suicide. It would never be forgotten. The party would have to dissolve. No one would ever again vote for a Democratic Senator, Congressman, State Representative or Sheriff.

Think about it, it doesn't even make sense!

Many people I talk to who support John McCain site "Patriotism" as the number one reason they are voting for him.
While serving one's country and enduring six years of torture as a POW is very "Patriotic", carelessly insinuating one's fellow countrymen has links to terrorist organizations to further one's own political career is (in my opinion) extremely irresponsible, hateful and UN-PATRIOTIC!

Does anyone remember McCarthyism in the 1960's? How about the Salem Witch Trials during the inception of this great country? How is this any different and any less irresponsible?

Both fore-mentioned blights on our country's history were created to scare citizens into submission just as the Bush administration has done ever since 9/11; using scare tactics under the threat of terrorism and calling anyone who disagrees "un-patriotic" to enforce their own personal agenda with out question.

Now the McCain campaign and right wing pundits are using the same techniques to try and save their campaign for the White House.

Don't buy into it my fellow countrymen! Vote for John McCain if you believe in his policies or because he is the best man to lead this country. Please don't vote for him because you think Barack Obama may be a terrorist. That doesn't make sense. Your smarter than that. This country is smarter than that.

We are bigger than these things as a whole. So should the leader of our country.

Sincerely,

Stephen M. Tatzmann

I hear what you are saying. I am voting for McCAin because I believe he has the experience to lead us through and out of the difficult time to come. I do not believe that Obama has experience to do anything but make a good stump in front of a bunch of folks who are only hearing what they want to hear and are tired of Bush/Cheney, whom, coincidentally are NOT running for re election. If Obama wanted to run against Bush, as McCain said, he should have run 4 years ago and not now....

Thanks,

and good luck to you and your candidate.

“ ‘Enemy combatant’ shall mean an individual who was part of or supporting Taliban or al Qaeda forces, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners. This includes any person who has committed belligerent act or has directly supported hostilities in aid of enemy combat forces.”

If Barack Obama were a terrorist, Cheney would have already sent him to Guantanamo.

Wow, this is ironic. Seeing as how I remember a Chris Robinson interview wherein he talks about how and why he doesn't vote.
I forget what his cop out reason was.
That really disappointed me. Maybe he's changed his mind now.

Regardless, yes.

Go vote everyone.

Let me start by saying that I absolutely love you guys & I think ya'll friggin rock!! Have loved you since your start!! Seen you guys at Memphis N May Music festival...and I must say it was a complete blast!! Seein you guys in person was AMAZING!! But on to the topic of voting.....yes we should all vote!! Its our civic duty to do so....but at the same time there are so many people voting that are completey unimformed, and THINK they know what's going on! But in fact they do not. They only know what's played on the media everyday! You say something long enough people will believe anything! I'll probably catch a lot of flack for this; but it's true. @ this point there is NO good side in Washington....they've become "career" politicians and could care less about the people who elected them in there in the first place! Hell their wives draw a pension of their own just for being married to these clowns! The side in paticular that I'm actually registered on-I'm pissed at them too! But the other is worse than "appears". So what do we do? Study, research and become informed! Ignorance in NOT bliss! If not for yourself, think of your children and their children; b/c whats happening in our "now" is from administrations years b4! Honestly, our present problems goes back to WWll. So really think b/4 you press that button.....you can't take it back afterwards! Thanks guys!

when speaking about our current president, a stevie wonder lyric comes to mind. it was written about richard nixon, who would have thought we could have had a worse president??

We are amazed but not amused
By all the things you say that you'll do
Though much concerned but not involved
With decisions that are made by you

But we are sick and tired of hearing your song
Telling how you are gonna change right from wrong
'Cause if you really want to hear our views
"You haven't done nothing"!

It's not too cool to be ridiculed
But you brought this upon yourself
The world is tired of pacifiers
We want the truth and nothing else

And we are sick and tired of hearing your song
Telling how you are gonna change right from wrong
'Cause if you really want to hear our views
"You haven't done nothing"!

We would not care to wake up to the nightmare
That's becoming real life
But when mislead who knows a person's mind
Can turn as cold as ice un hum

Isn't it always the brilliant musicians who say it best? you guys know a thing or 2 about that.

I EVEN STUDY POLITICAL SCIENCE AT THE UNIVERSITY... And i can promise you that it is in the own interest of the american people and the american nation to vote for the brilliant leader named OBAMA...i could easily write a whole book of obvious reasons to explain you why...but let..s keep it short... I ALSO STUDY HISTORY AT THE UNIVERSITY... And as a german (with a deep knowledge about our own dark episodes of history) i could easily tell you that the code "patriotic" is very often used to cover up what is indeed "fashistic"...and the republicans of the usa use it just that way mostly... my grandpa for example served for 9 years in the "wehrmacht" and then had to work in a gulag in sibiria because of this where he almost died... is he now a hero because of that??? or was this patriotic of him??? No it wasn..t at all!!! Why??? Because the real goals of the nazis who lead this war where totally wrong, egoistic, inhuman and criminal... But many soldiers just thought they behave "patriotic" and serve and defend their homeland...it was a thing of "patriotic duty" to them... You see patriotism can be criminal (and in fact lead to the biggest crimes in history) or can be good...it just depends on whether the leader of your country is right or wrong... And the usa can be wrong (and is wrong at this reign of the republicans in many ways!!!) just like all states (even democracies) in the world too... You denied caring about the environment and denied fighting the climate change, you denied an global social market system that worked extremely well in europe and especially germany, you lead wars that are based on lies and cheating just for imperial reasons and your huge hunger for oil, you denied the international court for war crimes in Den Haag because you are scarred that your own crimes could be accused, you established torture...etc... the usa can really be the hope of this planet...or just a (for a short time) mighty and unjust empire that doesn..t care about its responsibility... i really love the usa in many ways (just mention a lots of music and basketball)...my mum even lived in chicago for 6 years...and i still got family members who live in detroit...and i thank the usa for freeing europe and germany by defeating the nazis and protect us against communism..... but i hate the republican america!!! i hate its fundamentalism (just look at the stupid and uneducated Sarah Palin...it..s just a shame for a country like the usa........voting for her would lead to big laughs and head-shaking all over the world...) The war in irak was gods will??? The earth is 7000 years old and the people were exactely created the way that you can read in an old storybook named "bibel"...Are you kidding me??? We in Germany know sentences like that from people like hitler or popes of the middle ages... you are not "the chosen people" just as the germans never were or will be (people who think they are...are just fashistic!!!) nobody is chosen!!!..."all men are created equal!"...that..s why no religion can be right...(why should god just tell a few the truth???...god would have been a fashist) so there is no god...i..m sorry!!! but there are human beeings... and so it just depends on WHAT WE do...and now WHO YOU VOTE FOR... choose your right and admirable root usa... ...and sorry for my bad english...;-)

Reign of the Republicans? We've had a Democratic Congress the past 2 years, and things have only gotten WORSE. Hell, even Rolling Stone magazine (unabashedly liberal) of all things has criticized them. Extremes are our problem right now, Bush at one end, Congress at the other.

The sooner people wise up about the way bi-partisan politics have screwed this nation, the sooner actual positive and working change can take place.

Obama is the more extremist candidate this period. In my experience, extremists cause problems more often than not (whether in the realm of religion, business, or state). I will not be voting for him on the grounds of being completely unimpressed with his economic plan.

People voting for the sake of race alone (on either side of the issue) are behaving FOOLISHLY. People voting for the sake of a buzzword are behaving FOOLISHLY.
People who trust ANYthing that ANY politician says, are behaving, yep you guessed it, FOOLISHLY.
People who haven't done any research on their candidate (and his opponent) besides listening to the media's representation of them are behaving so FOOLISHLY that it's giving me an stroke.

@Shake: The only extremist in this election is Sarah Palin...look at her opinions (besides her stupidity)... She..s George W. Bush reloaded!!! An a real "neocon" fundamentalist!!!! Regarding the "health" of the very old Mccain...she would be president soon...so the Mccain-Palin-Ticket is one of the most dangerous tickets i ever saw in the history of the usa... Things got worse since congress became democratic??? Do you mean the closing of Abu Greib or what??? The financial crisis is clearly dued to the neo-liberal politics of the republicans...which means no regulation (sounds nice but causes anarchy and the big bang on the wall street we are now faced with on the hole globe, and tax cuts for the richest)...

Well, Shake (and the rest): you vote your way, I'll vote mine, he'll vote his, and she'll vote hers. That's just the way it is and it is the way it should be.

Much like religion where it doesn't matter what you believe in as long as you actually believe in something instead of just paying lip-service...damn all the self-righteous BS...just vote people.

Thanks for not getting politcal! Everyone should have strong feelings either way but I have a distaste for musicians, actors , and such that are politcal pundits. When I go to a show I go for the music and not to hear politcal views whether i agree or not.. as for music IMO it doesnt get much better than the CROWES!!
