The Boys After Interview
Hey Guys. So one of our interns, Brittany, just interviewed Andy from The Boys After via aim. It was her first interview ever, she did great! We usually do all of the interviews but we just wanted to give this a try! These guys are awesome DEFINITELY check them out. Andy is one of my new best friends, seriously he's great. Make sure to add them at www.myspace.com/theboysafter
FBP - So how did The Boys After get started or formed?Andy - Well, me being the newest member.. thats hard to re-call, but luckily my old bands played with them back when they first got started. It started when Jordan and Chris's old band "Unforgotten Hero" broke up. Pop punk was always a favorite of theirs and they aimed for that. They succeeded!
FBP - Haha. That's awesome. So how new are you exactly?Andy - Haha, welll.. I've been drumming with these new best friends of mine for about 4 months now! And it has been the best 4 months of my life.. not only have I made new best friends with these dudes.. but I've made friends with THEIR friends and their families. Truly a great group of guys. (very new i know, haha)
FBP - So even though you're new and all do you know how the name "The Boys After" came to be and why?Andy - Uhm, haha. I think it was the original guitar player Brian who came up with it. I honestly don't know how it came up, haha. I think he just has a knack for coming up with sweet band names, haha.
FBP - Haha. I must admit it is a pretty sweet name.
Andy - Which is cool.. cause he's always at our practices. He's become one of my best friends!
FBP - That is so great! Love it when old band members can still be friends with the current ones.
Andy - Oh of course.. he's our best friend.. all of ours
FBP - Of all the songs on the EP which one was your favorite one to record and why?Andy - Welp! Unfortunately the old drummer Aaron (now in This Time Next Year) got to record those songs.. but hey, I love playing them! My favorite song to play, would probably have to be "Let's Try This In A Spaceship", we all seemed to get stoked when we play that song and the stage presence is off the chain, haha. But we DID just record 3 new tracks this last weekend, and i was lucky enough to be on those! So be checkin back for those ;]
FBP - Sweet! Yeah! I can't wait to hear those! And stage presence is always a plus. I love it when you can tell even the band is excited to play a certain song.
Andy - Haha definitely. I get that way with a lot of bands when they play certain songs. It's always good to know when bands enjoy the songs they play (its actually hard to find bands like that nowadays haha)
FBP - Indeed! Well it's good to know we have you guys around to fix that problem!!
Andy - Haha most definitely! We love what we do!
FBP - How was the album artwork for the "You'll Be Missing Home" record brought about? Group effort?Andy - Yeah, I think the guys wanted to do artwork from their hometown, and from their actual homes. Pictures are NFG tickets that they had, Jordan's house and other random crap around Vacaville, haha. Afterall, the EP is titled "You'll Be Missing Home" haha. But I definitely LOVE the artwork, only because its in polaroids, of course. Haha Actually they have a picture of the suburban that we use as our "van" haha. It gets horrible gas mileage!
FBP - So while you're in the recording process (you and the guys) are there any albums that you all take inspiration from?Andy - Actually I think we've all been stoked on the new Hit The Light's record, so I think that had a little influence. And Kyle listens to Four Year Strong religiously so I think that had quite a bit of influence too, haha. Cause afterall, this new stuff is a litte different.. but i'm sure everyone will like it just as much! (we're hoping haha)
FBP - As far as touring goes, what do you all have planned for that?Andy - Well, we plan on hitting the road at the end of the year with a band called Fight Fair if all things go according to plan. I guess 2008 has just been a slower year for TBA, losing a member can do that to you, haha. Jordan, Kyle and Chris have full time jobs, and that requires.. obviously a lot of time! But me.. I'm unemployed for the time being, i'm a bum I know! We're definitely shooting for a tour at the end of the year though! :]
FBP - So how does it feel to be in the running for MTV's Band on the Rise?Andy - It's definitely a great opportunity! Unfortunately we joined a while after it got started, but it seems we have quite a few people voting.. we're 3 in Northern California.. so that's an awesome feeling. We're right in between two other amazing bands, Hazel and Vine and Push Push Pull (check them out!) so hopefully we get to the finals and we can make it happen! VOTE FOR US! :]
FBP - So let's say that you weren't in The Boys After (gasp!). What do you think you'd be doing?Andy - Haha, honestly? I would probably be doing vocals for a pop punk band in the veins of Sick of Change, or The Movielife. I did vocals and drums in my last band and vocals have always been a natrual ability for me. But it would be hard to be a LEAD vocalist, seeing as to i can only sing harmony, haha!
FBP - Alright, last question. Is there anything you'd like to add or say to your fans?Andy - Our music is true, so we want our fans to be true as well. We want someone to be in the front row at a show, screaming out the lyrics that they connect with the most, buy the shirts, albums and etc. Without fans.. bands can NOT exist! If that were the case, there would be no gas in tour buses, no money to pay their Sidekick bills, you know? It truly is a blessing to have constant, supportive fans. And we're just hoping to get more of those type of fans as we progress. But we can't progress without the support of you guys!
FBP - Aww that was lovely, Andy!
Andy - Well it definitely is how i feel, music is my passion, and i know how it feels to be brought to tears by a song when you're sitting in your room or singing a song obnoxioiusly loud in the car with your friends. Music is the best form of self expression. So i just hope people can love our expression."
Thanks for reading guys!
