October 23, 2009 - Friday
ok... to the few that might might read this...( out of the 12,000 + friends i have on myspace it seems there is only about 5 that read my blogs) i offer a question that is in dire need of an answer.

what happened to rock 'n roll. it seems that the genre that set America free has been lost to the tune of shooting cops and giving 'ho's' a ride on a private G5. what happened to the band that wrote music, busted their balls to tour and play 'their' music and people giving a crap about what they have to say...

you know if i wanted to be a millionaire i could easily write a hip hop song about how i want to 'have 81 one carrot stones in my necklace'. do i have jewelry that is worth that much.... NO... i wear a necklace that was givin to me by a good friend. i don't do bling.... my band doesn't do 'bling' we write and play music that we feel. that is real...

gettin' real sick and tired of how the industry has turned in the direction of the quick 'buck'. and be rest assured you'll be hearing about it on my next record which will be out sometime in the spring.

P.S.
in no way do i condone the act of referring to women as 'ho's'... i think that the female is something in this world that deserves the most respect over anything

It's been that way for some time now Ben. Its very sad, but money is what this country is all about anymore. I could go on and on about this topic you have brought up. I discuss it with friends, family and my boss often. Its not just the music industry.

...I still enjoy listening to "real" music and enjoy knowing that you still want to put real music out there.  I also am glad to hear about the PS.

AMEN I AGREE WITH HOW YOU FEEL!!! You, my friend, are an island of substance amidst a sea of shallowness.  Years from now, artistry like yours will be remembered.  The rest of it with any luck will fade like a bad fashion fad.

Well, you do have some friends that read your blog and enjoy your music. :) It seems that in a modern world people are running away from feelings and that is why the music changed. You might consider writing the song that makes you money and then come back to the style of music that you love and that has a feeling.

Rock 'n Roll is still there, you just have to look alittle harder to find it! People always return to their roots and music will do the same. Which is where you come in, just keep on doing what your doing and all will fall into place for you! As far as your P.S. that should go for all people.......

I completely agree. God gave you the artistic ability to make not only music, but to touch others hearts and free their minds. Inspiring youth today the true meaning of respect and self worth. Enjoying Life with your words of song. As we smile knowing, the reality of the crap culture today.. Will Never overturn what makes a difference by the beauty of your capabilities! Don't let the industry knock you down. Yet pep you into a future of glorious success. Be proud with a firm and collect vision. Rock on with it & just roll with the punches. You guy's have got this game. Peace*)

Brother, I can feel your pain. I struggle with it daily, not because I'm racist. But its my opinion and we are all entitled to that right? Or has that changed to? I blame T.V., and MTV, I remember Head Bangers Ball was awesome. But then YO Raps  and Beach House started and Bangers went out the window. Its no longer about feeling the music, its about slanging and banging, everyones a gangster, typically tough guy attitude. What can we do? It is what it is, all we can do is not get pulled into the sickness and continue being us. Play on brother and know that there are still us out there that LOVE what you do.!

Hi Ben, I agree with what U R saying but remember the artists who are being inducted into Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame.  I believe many are old-time rock n' rollers and it is here to stay.  The culture that is producing music which isn't mainstream are from a generation that is also here to stay unless we fight a War on Drugs.  Unfortunately, the world is decaying with a new modern cancer of drugs which are in every neighborhood, large, small, poor or rich.  If family values are not reestablished with true meaning, then the hip culture will find intimacy anyway they can and bad-ass music will stay.  That is my take on it.  Rock til' the end!  Suzy

It is funny how we can change this what may seem to be disturbance into an inspiring up turning of a spark. May we use our anger's energy to positive aspects to offer the gift you own and share it with a deep spreading of 'Rockin' peace, Ben. All of us love you, Ben. Hug's and 'Rock -n- Roll'.
Love peace,Kathleen

I totally agree with you....it has taken a turn for the "worst" when it comes to the genre of Rock.  I was born in the early '60's and I grew up with the Classics.  That music was powerful, it had meaning, it had the artist's ACTUALLY playin' what they were feeling.  ( even if it was after droppin' a hit of acid, or smokin' something ) Music was a way of expressing one's self and yes, there are those whom use it for a "political" backdrop, which I feel is also an expression of their feelings, but to "trash" our brothers and sisters and to show NO RESPECT for Human life, our well being, or the ideals that this country was built on, be it religion, politics, morals, and the laws that keep us out of harms way is NOT what I call music.  You are so right when you say that the industry has turned in the direction of the "quick buck".....heck now-a-days they hardly even touch instruments, they just push a button, pull down a switch or upload from a a computer and voila'  they've got a CD!!!  laziness, lack of inspiration, or maybe just like you said:  it's all about the BLING!!  Crazy, isn't it?  What would Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, John Lennon, Janis Joplin (and I could go on and on) think if they were still alive?  I shutter to think about it...

Well, you keep on doing what you do....cuz that's what this world needs is TRUE GRIT artist's that put it out there for all of us to enjoy.  Yes, it's hard work, but if you love it , you feel it and that's what makes a song truly a song...................sweat equity.  And we, as your fans, and all ..the other artist's with a passion to make REAL MUSIC will support you all.

Rock on.........
and remember:   Life is WHAT YOU MAKE IT!!!
so keep "making it" and we'll keep living it!!

<3 ya!
