Tonight is a crisp night. Feels like fall.
Out with my overly-energetic pup for a run, we felt the dew of an oncoming rain as we ran through the shadowed parts of the road. Puffing our way home and curling up in the warmth of the couch.
Being home is just comforting. Yeah, I could go for a run, but what about just staying home and doing something productive here? Making a house beautiful or making sounds that most likely annoy the neighbours (I'm talking about you, Mr. Piano). Preparing food for the hummingbird, scrounging the cat out of the garden for the 3rd time this week, enjoying the quiet that surrounds this country home.
And still. The air is just so crisp. Fall is coming.
I know what you're saying - summer is still here! But it's coming. Soon enough.
And then, in those days of falling leaves, and then in those days of falling snow, we find ourselves becoming homebodies, cleaning windows, vacuuming corners and crevasses, creating work to make the days go by.
Yes, I should go for a run because I know that when winter comes, I will hermit inside and do all of those "productive" things I think I should do now when the weather is just beckoning me to come outside.
And in the crispness of the air, I'm able to find my thoughts and gather them up in a neat pile, I can talk to my pup while we race around the neighbourhood - him in his obvious coat of fur, and me in my tank top and shorts. Once winter hits, it's coats for everyone.
The summer in Alberta is so short, so random. Rain has hit us more times than the sun has had to beat down our doors.
Soon enough. Soon enough.
Enjoy the weather while it lasts.
