Category: Dreams and the Supernatural
We all have recurring dreams/dream themes. I have my own little handful, some common, some unique.

For instance, the classic flying/falling dream-- in my dreams, it's manifested as leaping/bouncing high into the sky, soaring for a moment, and then feeling that sickly drop in the pit of my stomach as I plummet to the ground. You know-- the ticklish sensation brought on by freefall. I wonder if it's because I really loathe that freefalling sensation, probably more so than most people. It is why I won't ride the aptly-named "Freefall" ride at Magic Mountain, and why I won't bungee jump or parachute out of a plane.

Another common recurring dream is a bit more unusual-- I dream that my mouth is stuffed with food or gum. Then a situation arises where I have to spit it out-- either the food is dry and chewy and I don't want to eat anymore, or I need to do something like speak, but can't chew and swallow the food fast enough (or HAVE to spit it out, if it's gum) to empty it. Only problem is, the food refuses to come out of my mouth! I end up having to use my fingers or a spoon to manually scrape the stuff out of my mouth-- but despite my best efforts, it never completely empties! This one is interesting to me-- I can't even begin to fathom what it's supposed to mean.

And then there's the dream where I am driving a car, and the brakes don't work (or if they, do, they're extremely sluggish to respond). Usually I'm in the middle of a turn, or trying to back the car up, and wind up jamming my feet onto the brakes HARD, hoping desparately that I won't hit anything. Eventually I do slow down, probably due more to losing momentum due to friction rather than the brakes working at all. A corollary to this dream is the opposite scenario: my accelerator won't work and I find myself lugging the car up a steep hill, Flintstones-style.

It comes naturally that when your head is deeply mired in something (like school or work or a particularly pressing situation) you'll take it to dreamland with you. More than once have I found myself doing programming or working out formulas in my dreams, during the time when I'm supposed to be RESTING and taking a break from it all! :-P A few times, however, it's served me well in that I've discovered a solution to the problem/task at hand in my dreams :-) Now that's what I call productive sleeping!

Finally, an entertaining note: have you ever been sooo furious or yelled so loud that you could hardly make a sound? I have not, in my waking life. But quite a few times I've dreamed that I've gotten so incensed that I could hardly speak, or yelled so loud I could hardly form sensible noises. Who do you suppose was my chief source of aggravation in such dreams? Why, none other than Allan, of course! ;-)

How about you? What recurring dreams do you have? Are they fairly common or unique to you?

I WISH I remembered as many of my dreams as you seem to! Sadly, it's about one every 2 or 3 weeks for me that I can recall enough of after waking to scribble down the details on a piece of paper next to my bed and look at in the morning.

I have recurring dreams about tornadoes, though. I see the funnel coming towards me, and sometimes they vanish, but other times they actually pick me up and toss me about. I actually called into the radio station when they have their weekly show with the dream analyst on and asked what this dream means, and she said that weather dreams are extremely common and that tornadoes represent turbulence in your life, whether it be personal or career oriented, and that you feel like you have several different options and are unsure what to do.

Wow, was that really one sentence up there? Geez.... ;~P

Anyway, not unique. (Although some of my more interesting ones I do write about.)

I also used to dream about bees when I was a kid, a lot. I think it's because I have bee fear......

I think the only reason I remember them with such clarity is because I have these few themes fairly frequently. Well, frequently enough that I can detect a pattern! The more offbeat dreams that only happen once... I couldn't tell you what those were. Not that they weren't memorable in and of themselves, but I guess it's like studying in school-- the more times you read something, the more likely it is you'll remember it long-term.

The analyst's interpretation of your tornado dreams: sounds cliche, but rather apt for your situation!

So... do you still have a fear of bees? Just wondering if that's maybe why your bee dreams have ceased?

Are you kidding? I hate bees with a passion to this day, LOL. They always say bees leave you alone if you leave them alone, right? Wrong. Bees dive bomb me as soon as I walk out the door with no provocation at all! HATE those things.....

Also, I thought it was a total cliche too, as the analyst told me what could really apply to ANY situation in anyone's life.

LOL, maybe it's your scent. Do you wear a particular aftershave or cologne or deodorant or hairspray or mousse?

Allan and I typically eat lunch on the back patio of the kitchen at work, and we've NEVER had a problem with bees until recently. It coincided with the time he changed colognes, so I suspect they're attracted to the new scent.

I rarely wear any cologne's. It's just gotta be my shampoo or soap or something. But I don't use any particular brands there either, it's just whatever happens to be on sale, LOL. I guess I'm just not lucky enough to be left alone.

Must be the natural scent you just exude, then ;-) Scot smells like a flower :-D

When we had a pool in our backyard, bees used to love buzzing around us kids as we splashed in the water. We took to yelling "Go away!!" at them, and amazingly, it worked! Every single time! I guess you could always try yelling at them ;-)

Oh, I know-- isn't the nighttime/sleeping time supposed to be for taking a break from your daytime worries, and *resting*!?

Your staircase dream reminds me of another one I have frequently-- except it's in reverse. I'm trying to climb UP a staircase (usually spiral) but it's very narrow and hard to traverse. And the times I DO successfully make it to the top, I suddenly realize there IS no second floor. the staircase simply goes up into the ceiling. Or maybe the 2nd "floor" consists of little more than a very high ledge, giving me about 2 feet of clearance between the top of the staircase and the ceiling. Slightly claustrophobia-inducing!

I used to have a dream as a kid about giant worms...

You know when sometimes when you lay down you can hear your pulse in your head? That was the giant worms as they marched down the street to get me. I always used to hide under a giant table. I'm not sure if I was in giant land.
I hated that dream

Now, well my dreams are too naughty to reveal on a blog, but they are pretty regular :P

(Yes! I usually hear it right after I stretch, I wonder why that is)

Your kiddie dream sounds like something out of Alice in Wonderland!

I heard a theory that men and women are the opposite in that respect (re: your current dreams). Men dream of it when they aren't getting any, women dream of it when they ARE ;-)
