Miles Davis said once in a interview that the sound he had in mind for his masterwork Kind Of Blue had much to do to the memory of his childhood and the music he used to hear in the church.
Recently I had the chance to record some music in a chapel so I made up to tape some of the music out of Kind Of Blue: I consider it as classical music and this was the album that ultimately taught me to "hear" and love jazz music.
I played all the solos of the tune Flamenco Sketches, Miles' solo, Trane's and Cannonball's solos as a long line, like if they were a single long melody. I adapted the solos to my instrument, the soprano saxophone, yet trying to retain their original taste and nature. As far as I know is the first soprano version of that music in the world.
It's my way to pay homage to those men who managed to make that immortal sound real.
