Current mood:  hopeful
Category: News and Politics
Greetings from Alaska where the wind is howling down darkened morning streets and the temperature gauge reads "8" outside my Anchorage hotel.  I am writing this morning as our country turns toward the light of a new day that will dawn in a week.  I believe that we are at a crossroads. While I believe that Senator John McCain is a man of profound discipline who has given his life to the service of our country, this is not a time for someone who would be "better than" George Bush.  This is a time to redefine ourselves and our role in the world.  Barack Obama's candidacy has begun that promise for me and for many in our nation who have felt  disillusioned, disenfranchised, and defeated. As an artist I try to see the world as it is and put it in a form that expresses what I see and feel.  I think that this is a time for great change, and an opportunity to open up our hearts to the big horizon.  I will be voting for Barack.  You must make your own choice for change.  With hope for a brighter day,  I will see you down that new road.

Funny, Patty - I've been reading up on Alaska - a lot lately as I am developing a project that involves global warming and also, you have been on my mind, as I was thinking of women artists who are independent and stay true to their vision....I voted already, absentee paper trail - Obama. A big cheer to all the Alaskan's who have protested, stood up, and are helping keep this election - real. Cheers, Birdie

Long time fan of your music and concerts, Patty, but not your political views. :-) Keep up the good work, though.

Yes, it's not the time for anyone to hold back. Thank you for putting yourself out there with your beliefs and observations. I agree with all you have said. What is amazing to me is this man's courage to continue in the face of being demonized and misrepresented from an ignorant populace. It is at times so disheartening to hear the hatred so many people harbor just below the surface, looking for the opportunity for expression. We've got to say no to it or next they'll be coming for us.
