Hey, so I was originally going to hold off for a few more days, but it appears that the cat has been let out of the bag already. On March 28th I'm going to headline Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, NH. The show is going to be recorded and will be produced into my first live acoustic record.
I've had a lot of people tell me that while they enjoy the studio records I have put out, they wish that the vibe/emotion that a live show produces would translate better to the recordings. And regardless of how hard we worked to do that with "Wake," when you really produce a record, you begin to polish away the imperfections that seem to be what people relate to most and the emotion of the song seems to get lost.
With all this said, I am the MOST critical person of my own flaws and imperfections as a performer/singer. So, the idea of putting out live material, or watching YouTube videos, hearing demos, or bootleg recordings of shows has always made my skin crawl. But I spent most of my weekend listening to Jackson Browne's two live records and was completely engrossed in the simplicity of the recording (him, his voice a guitar and a piano) and the beauty of letting the songs and the performance be exactly what it was. While I don't claim to be able to put anything out that will come close to being on par with what he's done, the idea is what I'm shooting for.
As of now, the night will include songs off of both records, as well as some brand new material. I'm hoping to keep things relaxed and share stories... laugh and enjoy the evening as if it were a small performance with a group of friends. If this sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, I hope you'll join me for an interesting evening... one that will hopefully be something worth remembering. Tix are on sale now at tupelohall.com.
More info to come soon...
