On Saturday 7th March 2008, at 8pm the FifteenB Consort
will be presenting sequence of plainchant and polyphonic motets for
Vespers. The concert will be performed at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic
Church, Cadogan Street, Chelsea, London SW3 and will be in aid of St.
Mary’s Development Fund. Admission to the concert is free but there
will be a retiring collection.

The FifteenB Consort will perform a sequence of plainchant
and motets taken from the Vespers service, including music by Vittoria,
Grandi, Parsons, Ashton, Fayrfax, Frye and Lobo.
The sequence opens with Robert Parsons Ave Maria followed by Vespers motets by Tomas Luis de Victoria and Alessandro Grandi. The FifteenB Consort will be premiering a new setting of the Vespers hymn, Lucis Creator Optime
by their Artistic Director Robert Hugill. The Vespers sequence will be
concluded with Robert Fayrfax’s magnificent Magnificat ‘Regale’ from
the Eton Choir Book.

The concert ends with motets dedicated to the Virgin Mary, including Hugh Aston’s Gaude, mater matris Christi and Walter Frye’s Salve Virgo, dating from mid-15th century this is the earliest item on the programme.

The FifteenB Consort is a six person vocal ensemble
which often sings with one voice to a part. Their programmes mix early
music with contemporary pieces by their artistic director, Robert
Hugill. The members of the FifteenB Consort are drawn from the choir FifteenB which was founded by Robert Hugill in 1994. Since then FifteenB have performed regularly at St. Mary’s Church, Cadogan Street including presenting 4 concerts at the Chelsea Festival.
