COMMENTS
The Olivier Day Soul stuff is wicked. Love Potion No.9, Spaceship and You. Reminds me a lot of J.Dillas stuff, which ain't a bad thing.
(Ashley Beadle – Xpress2/Bestival/Fabric/Various – Worldwide)
Nice, some Dilla-eque beats with cool chilled vocals, nothing I could play out though. (Brad Baloo 'The Nextmen' – Fabric/Get Loaded In The Park/Various – Worldwide)
Potion 9 - loved this track when first heard on his myspace (then name Daytona Soul) which was about 3 plus years ago, and still love it now. Spaceship - been playing this out. 808 haven! You - sounded very nice on deviation yesterday.
(Fatima Layla – Deviation/Definition Music/Pause/Various – UK)
Good futuristic R&B. I like it. Hudmo told me about Olivier Day Soul a while ago and never add a chance to properly listen to it. Reminds me of Spacek and Outkast. Wicked
(Ghislain Priorer – Ninja Tune/Various – Worldwide)
Heavy heavy production ...lovin these slippery beats. You can hear his peers in these tracks with an undeniable reference to the sounds of SA RA on the production but heavy with the Prince on the vocal melodies particularly .. her mind, then with "You" i can hear snoop rhymin ???? Favorite track is difficult to say as they're all quality ...must be "You" or "Change Her Mind". Getting alot of love in my set.
(Yes King Soundsystem – Viber Bar/Cargo/Various – Worldwide)
Potion No. 9 – I like the vocals and kinda mellow vibe- a memorable vibe though!
Spaceship -- Not as strong for me.
Change her mind -Again nice vocals like the dirty end of the groove, just a bit sleepy 4 me
You - yeah nice stuff!
(Rob 'Stereo Mc's' Birch – Old Queens Head/Fabric/Various – Worldwide)
Olivier Day Soul has come up with some great tracks here, the production is very sick, clean, bass heavy & with a nicely spacey vibe, & all the effortless sounding vocals match the mood flawlessly. 'Potion No.9' is reminiscent of Raphael Saddiq, in a good way, 'Spaceship' is probably my favourite here with its ultra - hard drums & modern day George Clinton kind of vibe, 'Change Her Mind' is a wicked chilled out track with one heavy baseline & killer dilla-esque synths, & 'You' is yet another wicked extremely funky track, not a bad word to say about this, i look forward to checking out the whole album.
(Dj Matman – DMC & ITF Champion/Jazz Café/Various – Worldwide)
Feeling this too – playing 'You' on the show.
(Tom Simspon – Juice Fm/Various – Brighton)
"It's got to be funky!..." Olivier is lighting it up on some grown folks biz. It's not something that fits into my regular sets, but i'm feeling it still, the beats on some Jazzy Jeff (BBE), and he's on some Alexander O'Neill slash D'Angelo slash Outkast. That early New Jack swing brought into the '00. Spaceship is my favourite joint...
(Profisee – Volume/Ballers/The Ivy/Lucky Me – Glasgow)
Good good stuff, feeling Spaceship and Change Her Mind very much.
(Dj A La Fu – Ninja Tine/Radio Skool/Various – Scotland/Worldwide)
Yeeeeaaaagghhh! ODS in the place!....... You and Change her mind are the ones.... Spaceship I had on a 4lux ting and i been on him since. Nice early doors runnings, one for the ladies and we know without the girls no one be dancing! Dropped in clubs and bars early doors and on radio.
(Blacksmile – Faux Real/Size/Nu Era Parties – Birmingham)
Nice beats 'You' I can drop early on in the eve.............
(Dj Session – 93 Feet East/Cargo/Various – UK)
Coincidentally picked up the Bopgunn 12" last weekend… Missed it earlier… Oliver Day Soul = Quality voice and tunes… Love the beat .. Your Mind" – very Steve Spacek "You" is reminiscent of Sa Ra…
(Ali H/Dj Stoaty – The Tuesday Club/Various – Leeds/Sheffield)
I think we know we are dealing with a star here. Potion No.9 and You should make the album worthwhile on their own. Live shows are probably essential to see the real depth of his talent.
(Karim – Nobody Don't Dance No More/Various – London)
Yes! been bumpin some of these for a while. Spaceship is a stone cold classic, and Change her mind gets a lot of play round these parts. Olivier is definitely one of the best and most unique new soul singers out. Good to see this gettin a proper big release at last.
(Martyn/The Blessings – Lucky Me/Ballers/The Ivy/Various – UK)
Of course Olivier is dope... His abstract soulful style reminds me of Sa-Ra. You and Potion No.9 are the joints that are gonna be on rotation.
(Dj Cavalry – Lookout/Favela Chic/Various – UK)
Spaceship – Really feeling this, conjurs up feelings of Outkast with a sci fi futuristic soul feel thrown in to the mix, definitely play this one out – slightly reminiscent of Prince in some high vocal places. You – Again another fine dose of futuristic soulful serenading! Will sit nicely amidst my Strange Fruit Project, Erykah Badu, Spacek, Amp Fiddler records. Position No.9 – Having recently been through the wars with the missus, this EP is one of the brightest things to come into my life over the past 2 weeks! Beautiful!Change Her Mind – Rounds off the EP nicely, really want to hear the album after this taster... 4 solid gold tracks.
(Dj Odin – King Apparel/10 Tons/Cargo/Various – UK)
The Production is definitely on point. Not sure if I'm quite ready for Olivier's slightly over the top vocal stylings - much prefer the more understated singing in 'Change Your Mind' (Danny Doyle – Headshell/3 Blind Mice/Various – UK) BANGIN.. that's killa.
(Dj 2tall – Gramaphone/Various Productions Dj/Bar Rumba – Worldwide)
Not really feeling this one, bit too slick for my tastes...funky, but a bit slick.
(Kidda – Skint/Various – Brighton) The influences named are spot on. i would add Bilal to that list too.
Overall quite groovy and funked out. I like it.
(Pursuit Grooves – RBMA/Various – New York/Worldwide)
