Current mood: excited
Dear Wildsiders!
Well, it's time to let you know all what is going on - god I know you've all been wondering and desperate to know! At least judging from the floods of emails, texts, MySpaces, Facebooks and generally running up to me in a pub asking and begging for details!! As with anything we do at Wildside, we don't want to release half assed details that might change or fall through, or allow any unfounded rumours to get out, so I'm sorry we've kept you waiting but it's been worth it. I know some of you were really upset about losing Junktion7, I think we've all come to love that place if you didn't at first, the atmosphere and vibe in there was better than most clubs could ever dream of.
But before I get to the juicy stuff, I honestly could not start off this without saying a huge thank you and debt of gratitude to Adrian, Di and all the stuff that made Junktion7 such an amazing venue and a pleasure to work with. Their work ethic, dedication and support was invaluable, but most important of all - it's seems more and more a rarity to find someone who wants to work WITH you to get the very best night possible, and not the opposite as if they're doing a favour. Put simply, thank you and best of luck in whatever ventures you pursue next.
So... now onto what's happening with Wildside. Well, prepare for a nice surprise as .... *drum roll* .... we're not moving anywhere!! That's right! We're staying put! The venue has new owners, new name, new ideas and new look!! AND most excitingly - Wildside will be the grand re-opening night on Saturday 14th February!!! VALENTINES DAY NO LESS!!! OH and with ZODIAC frickin' MINDWARP playing!!!!!! The new venue will simply be called "SEVEN" with a cool new look and logo to go with. (If you've ever wondered why '7' has and is being used, well the Canning Circus junction was back in the day and still is the meeting of the 7 major roads into Nottingham! So there ya go...) The premises has been picked up by new owners and we're really impressed with their plans for the place, not only has the stage size been increased but there's completely new facilities for bands backstage and as I type - they're currently beavering away with decorators, builders, electricians, etc and all sorts! So we're totally psyched that they've picked WILDSIDE to launch SEVEN and boy are we going to put on a show! After that Wildside will of course continuing running on the 1st Saturday of every month as usual! Their work in progress website is here -> http://www.sevenlive.co.uk/ More exact details and tickets etc will follow shortly I promise! But as far as you, dear Wildsiders are concerned, you don't need to worry or get used to a different venue!
And we promise bigger and better things this year! We're really now in a much stronger position to attract some of the larger acts and tours just purely from our reputation as THE glam club to play in the UK! As I type, UK tours for overseas bands are being planned purely around playing Wildside (to quote one frontman of a band based in New York... 'If we don't play Wildside, there's no point in us touring the UK'!) and we've got some exciting opportunities coming our way! I do sincerely hope they come through and work out, we just simply want to put on the best night possible and continue to grow as we have done. Our commitment is to YOU the people that come to the night - the fans, the friends, the supporters, the people that can only occasionally make it - we don't care - we love and respect you all equally and you are more important than anything else. You came and told me how sad you were the venue was closing, we listened, we considered all options but the decision was very easy in the end. I hope that we can make you all much more involved with the night over 2009, and the focus of this will be a brand spanking new website currently being designed and worked on. We also have lots of stuff planned outside of the clubnight, some of you may guess or know what these may be, so watch this space. Whatever we do - we try and do it right and to the best that we possibly can. We look forward and hope you continue on this ride ... it's going to be one hell of a year!!
Yours excitedly,
DJ Al
