Hey guys, Mike here.
I said that I would do a follow up on that Jonas Bros meeting, so here it is.

It was a really great night.  Damone's old tour manager, Misty, has been out with those boys on their last two tours.  When she told them that she used to work with us, they were apparently pretty psyched, and asked her if she could set up a meeting in Boston.  So in a way that only Misty could, she put the whole thing together for us.
SO nice to hang out with Misty again too.  Good times 4 sure.

The Jonas kids appeared tired to me.  They may be one of the hardest working bands I've ever met.  The marketing genius behind it all completely blew my mind too, but all of that $tuff is a whole other story.
Mrs Jonas seemed really sweet, and Misty had nothing but nice things to say about working on the tour and the Jonas family in general.

A couple things did catch me off guard though. The first was when one of boys started talking about seeing us live on tour a fews back.  They didn't see us with the Rejects, or at some radio festival... they saw us in this slummy NJ rock club with Bullets and Octane, and Valient Thorr (who they apparently like a lot too).
Now, Valient kicks some serious ass, but they're really not a band I expected those kids to be into.  Plus they must've been super young to be hanging out in a place like that.  I know I wouldnt've been allowed in there back then.  (I'm still not allowed. *crying in the corner*)

Photobucket

Damn we had some wild fun days on that tour. - Valient Thorr.

The second thing was the show itself.
They were nice enough to give us front row seats, and seemed excited for us to catch their live show.  Initially, the only thing I could focus on was the deafening sounds of 70+ thousand screaming girls, and like an old man I basically I just wanted to go home... or cash in those sweeeet tickets for (god only knows how much $) to some poor parent outside who's simply desperate to get their little Sussi-pants into the concert.  BUT, obviously that would be a rude and ungrateful gesture to these seemingly super nice people.
(Besides, if those seats were empty, it would look pretty damn conspicuous)

Photobucket
Yeah, I know. Most 14yr old girls can only dream.

As it turns out, it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
The excitement of all those kids can't be faked, and it reminded me of how I felt about my favorite bands back in the day.  The performances, the stage show, the outfits... I mean everything was pure entertainment.  At one point they actually made it rain on stage!  It was like a full on Vegas production.  Unbelievable.

I'm told that this was Jordin Sparkks or something like that

I hate to say this (and it's sure to piss a few people off) but I was lucky enough to see Metallica with my buddy Len a few months back, in the same place, with seats almost as good as these were.  The Jonas show blew them clear out of the water.  And I love Metallica,  but these days they're just not that exciting. Like my bedroom doorknob.

Totally off the subject, I don't think that I would get along too well with Lars Ulrich.
And I hated that movie Some Kind Of Monster. (prolly cause it hits too close to home)  And it was like getting to see Superman in his home argue with his wife.  Some things you just don't wanna know about.
But at one point in the film, Lars is talking about Hetfield's mellowing-out and says something like, "20 years of hatred. It sold us millions of records... and NOW look at him!"
-Hahahaha.  That was awesome.

Don't get me wrong. I'm all in favor growing up a little by the time you're like 50, because nothing's sadder than some rocker who's acting as rebellious as he did at 21... but, none-the-less... what happened to metal?

huh?

Photobucket
No but... seriously... what the hell happened?

Alright then.  That's that.  I'm done.
There's other things to talk about too, but I'm too lazy to get into it right now.

-Me

I'm sorry.  I just can't help it.  James?  Really?
Photobucket
You went from "this" to an "Armani Collezioni" bag?
This is absolutely heartbreaking for me.
I feel like killing myself right now.
Like, everything in life is fraud.

I mean... it's just too much to handle

And on that note I will leave you with a Metallica lyric that suddenly makes more sense than ever, as if they were predicting the future.

"Yesterday seems as though
It never existed
Death greets me warm
Now I will just say goodbye"

- Goodbye

Omg...that was the best blog I've read in ages dude haha...totally couldn't agree with you more about Metallica...they are as interesting as paint drying. I'm not a fan of the Jonas Brothers at all, but you made a great point....that the people at the show were beyond excited to see them, and we all have had that band/concert experience at one point or another...it's better to evoke emotion like at a Jonas Brothers concert, even if it's the Jonas Brothers, than to see a killer band, and be disappointed. I like you, miss the old days of Metallica, and for me, after (or during) , the black album, they were never the same to me. I'm saw No Doubt w/Paramore a few weeks back, and Paramore is one of the most energetic bands out there today...they really get you jumpin'....and it was GREAT to see No Doubt's show because they were as good as ever...they haven't forgotten how to rock. Green Day tonight. Will they be as good as when I saw them at Woodstock? Maybe not, but they're still high energy I'm sure. I understand bands grow, age, mature, whatever....but one you rock, why won't you always rock???

"I don't wanna be there when it ends, to be there when the curtains fall"....on bands that once rocked, and now do only attempt to. Well said by a phenomenal band.

LMAO on the Metallica stuff and good to hear a real, non-entertainment tv/papparazzi/sucking up review of what JB are really like.  I hope they have people who really do take care of them.  Thanks for sharing!  A very cool perspective.  (though I would still rather be at a Damone show than JB...ha!)

Yes it has been a fantacy of mine and my best friends for years to build a time machine and bring  Metallica from the 80's back to the present so they could kick their own asses.

Very insightful. Also, I just want to say when I read the title, by "J.Bros" I thought you meant my hometown of Jonesboro for some reason...

I caught you on that same tour with Thorr and B&O in Denver.  That was the BEST show of the year.

Rock

That is all

We saw you guys for the first time on that same tour with Bullets and Octane in Albuquerque, NM.  It was great - I have to admit, I didn't know who you were at the time, but then I started hearing you on the radio shortly thereafter, and was like "I met them - they were awesome!"  Glad you got some good entertainment out of the J. Bros.

Nice blog, but you think you pissed people off?  Get a *load* of this lol  I never got the hype of 80s Metallica (ducks).  "Enter Sandman" was their peak...and about as heavy as I go.  Bought "And Justice..." as a kid and my ears felt about the same as a metalhead listening to the JoBros ;-)  I'm sure Metallica were (and are) great musicians, and all badass and shit, but give me songwriting, hooks, and melody any day.  Like Damone, Butch Walker, or Bon Jovi (ducks again).  No, I've never been cool...but I can live with that :-)

PS: LOL at the "I feel like killing myself" comment.  Its weird how emo...uh...I mean melodramatic people get over their favorite bands changing.  As for JoBros, there's a lot worse on the radio ::coughBritneyBeyonceJustinPussycatDollscough::...and its cool they're bringing Powerpop to the kiddies.  I'd rather hear Damone, but that's the biz...what can you do?

Dude....bit harsh on Metallica I thought, but I can't argue this late at night. Maiden are keeping the metal alive though..as always.

Great blog....not sure about the rain inside though, wet + stage = worried.

You know what, I gotta' hand it to you for giving props to the Jonas Brothers.  People LOVE to hate on them, whether they've heard the songs or not.  I can understand, because the market saturation is so intense that you can't avoid these guys.  But when I saw them on SNL recently I realized these kids have chops.  Nick Jonas was beating the fuck out of his kit!  I bet those kids spend more time in the studio rehearsing and getting tight than 99% of the artists and critics who slam them.  I even picked up their new record for a lesson in immaculate production.  Every artist could learn something from these guys to better their own career.

The Jonas Brothers are no different than the beetles to me. I'm not much on their music, mostly because I dont have a vagina. But I understand wanting to make music for money. I don't understand why people try to make these dudes seem like musical geniuses. Their accountants and Managers are the real geniuses as far as I'm concerned. They make alot of money strumming on the heart strings of little girls everywhere. But hey, like you said, its entertainment, they are doing their job and laughing all the way to the bank. No matter how much I hate their music, you can't deny what they do is rad. Not gonna lie, I would totally sell out to just be able to make music the rest of my life.

Yep, Armani and Metallica should not co-exist in the same sentence...

You should do another tour with V-Alien-T.

So what if it was at the Basement in Columbus.  I loved it.
