Current mood: amused Category: Life
So yeah, our second show on our own (without the aid of other bands) is this Saturday. How will it go? I think about the same as last show, which wasn't too bad.
The last show reminded me of exactly how fucked up so-called members of the human race can be. Of all the people who told me they would show up, only a few actually did. Look: If you're going to tell someone that you're going to do something, you should probably follow through with it. You know, to keep up appearances and what not. Otherwise, you just come off as a bullshit artist, and more than a bit of a horse's ass for good measure.
Of those that did show up, most had a good time. I say most because there are a few I can't speak for, and honestly don't want to speak for. They know who they are, and as far as I'm concerned, they shouldn't bother showing up this time. I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I'm going to tell Corey (our Time Square doorman) to deny them entry, because quite frankly, I have to perform, and I'd rather do it in a good mood. That certainly was NOT the case last month, and I'd rather piss off one of Jos' regular customers than have to deal with that again. My part of the show would have been MUCH better than it was had my brain not been preoccupied.
Apart from the childish bullshit that seems to be everyone's general policy towards me and anything I'm associated with these days, it was a great show. Thankfully, my voice made it the entire three sets, something I was worried about going in. 17 years of smoking has taken its toll, but I'm still able to pull it off. Only a few lyrical lapses, too. Happens to singers all the time: For some weird reason, we just blank for a moment. With those concerns quieted, I think I should be able to keep the wave going and continue to contribute to the whole that is the band.
As for people, I'm optimistic - believe it or not - about how the turnout will be this weekend. I'm going to go ahead and guess that it'll grow, albeit just a small bit. The one thing I was hoping to hear at the last show, I heard: People were saying that they had to make plans to come back on the 15th. One person saying it would have been enough, but several made mention, so bonus. And if they tell their friends, the crowd stands a chance of growing.
Of course, I go into things with low expectations (something my so-called love life has taught me to do quite well) anyway, so even one person saying it would have been a victory. Meh, that's just me, I guess. But Buck-It still has a following, it's just a matter of getting them back onto the boat.
Slightly Off Topic - I went to the Fair this past Wednesday to see The Zoo. Not only was Chris Kane a total child, but they had Dan Staples singing for them that day.
All the way back in 1995, a band called Rude Dawg (then consisting of current Buck-It members Bob Haight and Dave Read) played at the Clearfield Riverfront Festival. Their singer? Dan Staples. We hung out with him and caught a bit of his attitude at the time, dissing Jim Morrison and modern rock in general. What got him really mad, though, is that we were taking off in the middle of their show to go see Batman Forever.
And now, here I am, with his job. Things have a funny way of working out. I have nothing against Danny, I think he's a great singer, and I know his association with The Zoo is temporary until Chris can get over himself and either find a regular singer or just give up the ship like he always does after a few months with a band. It's just Karma's way of doing a Nelson Muntz impression.
News Flash, Kane: YOU ALREADY KNOW AN 80s ROCK SINGER. The first problem is, you're being a child and trying to not associate with him simply because he's an Atheist. Which is really weird, because everyone who knows you that I've spoken to is absolutely flabbergasted that religion - of all things - is the reason you chose to act like a spoiled child who's retreating into his own checkerboard-shoe-wearing fantasy world. You're suddenly offended by the simple fact that someone you know is an Atheist, and now you can't be bothered to be his friend. Selfish much?
The second problem is, said 80s Rock Singer already has a band that he's quite loyal to:
BUCK-IT, MOTHERFUCKER.
You screwed yourself, Kane. I'm just sad that Jim, Paul, and the rest of the band will eventually have to deal with you screwing them, too.
