The Beauty In Distortion/ The Land Of The lost

J*Davey

Release date: 1 Jul 2008

Label: Interdependent

J*Davey is an underground duo from Los Angeles, led by the mohawked lady with a boy's name, Jack Davey (real name Brianna Cartwright) and beatmaster / producer Brook D'Leau. Together since 2000, they have written music scores for television shows "CSI: New York" and "Entourage". Prince has asked them to open for them at his 3121 club. J*Davey, the self proclaimed "Black Eurythmics", welcome you to their uncompromising world, with a double cd that defies current definitions of what's considered pop, r&b or soul music.

Familiarity with the Platinum Pied Pipers, Plantlife and Spacek will prepare you for these two monster albums, which link seamlessly to take you on a bold and unpredictable musical journey. Brook D'Leau's off-rhythm drum patterns, synths and artistry shine on stand-out tracks such as "Mr Mister", "Slooow", "No More", "Just Because", "Hi's and Lo's" and "Camera (Gangsta)". D'Leau seems to be able to produce anything and arrange it beautifully to sound right in all the right places and right in all the wrong places! He achieves this thanks to Miss Jack Davey. Her jazzy vocals and wry lyrics, coupled with Brook's new wave, funk and pop influences allow the exploration and fusing of musical genres that seemed world aparts. J*Davey are not afraid to push boundaries. Now, will you be brave enough to follow them?
