That's ridiculous. What about at fairs and all of that? There should be no difference.
We should be entiltled to at least play our music.

According to City of Kenosha's online park appliation, "Note: NO bands allowed at any parks except in the Southport Beachhouse. DJ music is allowed at specific parks."

Also on their site: "To schedule a special event in the park system contact:

Park Department, 3617 - 65th Street, Kenosha, Wisconsin 53142, 262-653-4080 ...
Address a letter to the Park Director with the attached special events request form. ..

Most requests are submitted to the Park Department for review in January, as this prevents scheduling conflicts. A park use agreement must be completed and you must provide proper insurance coverage. Your event may have to be approved by the Park Commission, so please submit it at least one month prior to your planned date."

Also, instead of contacting the mayor about this ordinance, the thing to do is call your respective alderpersons. They can advise you on how best to bring this issue to the table.

Good luck with finding a venue. This is an important event to many people.

Thank God? You must have something better to thank GOD for, don't you? It's people like you that open your mouth and close your mind to anything that's not mainstream or POP that ruins it for the rest of us. You're no Duke Rufis? What about when people concidered your sport barbaric and idiotic? You stood up for your rights to hold/attend MMA events. We just want to play music and not hurt anyone. We stand up for our right as (I say this loosly) FREE americans as you or anyone else would.

Thats crap! I like how people can drive down my street bumping their friggin bass enough to shake my house at 3am- and theres no music! Its just bass. and yet there cant be music in a park, during the day when people are awake? Its prejudiced. People are afraid of the unknown to them.

If the only way you can get a show is playing a park then you need a new manager. there are plenty of bars in Kenosha that have live music. a lot of them have their own P.A. too, where as you would have to set up all of your own stuff at a park. plus not to mention it is a public park. people walking around or hanging out at the park don't want to hear loud music unless it is a festival. parks are for sports, venues are for music

WELL WE ARE A SUB CULTURE WHO BELIEVES PARKS ARE FOR EVERYONE AND THE THINGS THEY CHOOSE. NOT ALL OF US ARE CONVENTIONAL. A PARK IS A PERFECT PLACE TO HAVE A PIKNIK AND THE MUSIC COMMUNITY IS NO EXCEPTION. MUSIC EVENTS ARE IN PARKS IN ALL CITIES . YOU HAVE NO ARGUMENT HERE DUMMYPANTS. JUST A DISLIKE FOR US AND /OR PUNK IS ALL YOU HAVE PROVEN. WE DO PLAY IN OUR BARS DUMMYPANTS. GOODLUCK FINDING A GUITAR PLAYER WITH A MIND MORE NARROW THAN YOUR JOINTS. BY THE WAY PUFFY, SHIT YOUR PANTS !!

One way or another the music WILL be heard by those who truly want to hear it. All the registered voters should take this up as a MAJOR issue in the next local election! Let those in power know that if they don't repeal this ordinance, they will BE VOTED OUT OF OFFICE! Having this piknik on private property is a candle in the dark. Either way, I'll be there, and I WON'T be silenced unless somebody both cuts off my hands AND slits my throat! If you can organize a piknik, then you can organize a movement! Don't take this lying down! Let's make sure it IS in the parks next year. From Chi-Town, with LOVE!

Come on out to SouthFest for live music this weekend.  We are a community group trying to raise money for a bandshell for Sunnyside Park so we can have more music there.
http://www.southkenosha.org/
Thanks!  We think there should be more live performances in parks as well.
SOUTHFEST 2009 - Sunnyside Park Saturday and Sunday 9/12 and 9/13
