...because I think it's important to support my local Barnes & Noble.  They've been around since the late 90's and I would hate to see all that tradition slip away.

That's the right way to think :D

I don't shop at Amazon because a) I don't think militant women in leather bikinis should be selling books and b) I can never find any of their stores.

Wow...it's been around since the late '90's, huh?  Well, I understand wanting to support your local mom and pop stores.  Way to go!

B&N is so uptight, Toby.  You're not uptight, are you?  At least choose Borders, over B&N... and then you could shop at Amazon without feeling the slightest bit of guilt because Borders partners with them anyway.  See?  It's a win-win situation.

B&N = Bad.
Borders = Good.
Amazon = Me Likey.

I'm all about supporting the locals--except for when it's still a week until payday & I know that I can get a bottle of water and a book for under 5 bucks at my "local Wal-mart." That's when my morals have to go out the window...

That made me laugh out loud.  Too funny!

I remember a couple of years ago, I couldn't find a book at B&N in San Jose - the clerk said "we can order it for you", and I said "oh, I'll just order it online".  He then said, with a sincere look of panic on his face - "just don't use Amazon!".  Nice.  Like I'm going to have pity for the behemoth bookstore that probably built itself on the grave of an independent bookstore.

LOVE your humor and your writing!

I won't shop at Amazon because they totally screwed me when I ordered Knowing Me, Knowing You With Alan Partridge and it took them twelve months to not only tell me they don't carry that item, but also send back the money order I made out for said item as a form of payment. Which I cannot redeem anywhere for the cash back.

So no, I will not shop at Amazon either...

Although it's not really a bookstore anymore, is it? It's more of a ginormous coffeehouse that just happens to have books you can actually buy.

i think some people are taking you seriously when you're talking about supporting the new saga of the wal-mart of book stores that's only been around since the late 90's. maybe you are serious though, and I'M wrong....what a world!

We don't have Barnes & Noble in New Zealand. Or Borders. We have a shop called Whitcoulls, but I find shopping on Amazon easier. It saves me leaving the house...

I think it was only in returning and reading this a second time that I caught the sarcasm...but as a once, and perhaps soon-to-be-again B&N employee, I thank you for your patronage, haha.
