For those of you that missed our Thursday show at Don Hill's you missed a truly fun night of what NYC metal has to offer. Most people don't really think of New York City being a metal town. With our domination of all hip hop radio station, the lack of a true rock radio station in the city, and endless night clubs where bands have been replaced by DJ's I can't really say that I blame most people for only thinking of Jay Z and 50 cent when they think of NYC night life and music. One only need walk down a club ladened street in our fare town to see that Rock and Metal are really the underground here.
I am almost certain that ever person reading this that has ever been to a night out in the city has noticed that there is an endless string of clubs playing what sounds like the same club, house, trance, jungle, (add endless/ meaningless additives to describe dance music that sound the same here) boody sweat, with the same, pop collared, spiky haired, so orange tanned they look like an Oompa Loompa (insert your favorite douche bag description here) person/ club goer.... But if you dig just a bit down you will find something worth your efforts.
For those of you that know about NYC Rock and metal bands, you know that we have an underground scene that is as good as any city in the world... Smaller but just as good. While bands like the STROKES are thought of as being some what typical of the cardboard, recorded with a tin can sound of NYC rock bands. Bands like Conspiracy of 4, Thinning the Herd, Infinite System, Resolution 15, along with yours truly The Saints of Pain, are the point furthest from that. Our sound is the 12 foot thick wall of sound, kick you in the teeth metal that you have been waiting for. The people that know this about these bands can pack club, and are as rowdy a group as you will find any where. While ignored by the radio, and disposed of by the clubs, these people are the greatest fans a band could ever ask for and the salt in the wound of defiance to a city that boasts that ROCK IS DEAD.
Another thing happened on Thursday in the annals of Saints History that shall make it a red letter date....
