Who Gives Kudos:

Tuesday, June 24, 2008
i'm getting so tired of cleaning out spam from this mailbox and replying to posts about complete and utter bullshit. i started this space as a tribute to one of my all time favorite bands, to keep their name and music alive, and was hoping to find other people who share those sentiments, and maybe even add their story. instead i get spam, and hundreds of ads masquerading as "thanks for the add" type bullshit.

"THANKS FOR THE ADD" is going to end right now. no more. you want to thank me for the add, do so by telling everyone your favorite song, about how you first discovered them, why you love them. anything! just not 'THANKS FOR THE ADD' its the blandest bullshit comment, and so surprising to get from fans of such a creative, groundbreaking band.

so if you want to see your post or anything else on this tribute page, make it about the band or fuck-off.

My fav song is Mutiny In Heaven!!

I first heard of this band through a friend of mine. He knew I listened to the Bad Seeds and was like, "Hey, don;t you know about The Birthday Party?" and BAM! I was hooked. Love these freakin guys.

Sorry about your spam situation. It blows. Just letting you know there are some of us out here who appreciate what you are doing.

I don't know about my story. I make music. I put it online. Have a listen perhaps.
Take it easy and good luck!!

Too right, how meaningless a comment is "Thanks for the Add". Thanks for the links to those excellent You Tube clips. My earliest memory of the Birthday Party was at a smallish venue in London, can't remember where, Malaria also played. Fell in love with Nick and the boys that night, hardly missed a London gig after that.
Not so sure about that tache now though!

Yeah I hear what you're saying and I can understand the spam hatred but as I see it you're bagging a simple and myspace-traditional gesture of goodwill from a fan by blocking thanks for the add comments. If you're going to get selective then why don't you consider turning off the automatic friend acceptence feature that you currently have enabled and set an entry test pertaining to the history of The Birthday Party? I say "thanks" when I'm pissed and bludge a cigarette but I don't wax lyrical to the giver about their elegantly refined choice of cigarette brand. As an opener though, the cigarette can be the start of a conversation.
As I see it entry to your fan page is worth about a cigarette that may lead to a good conversation, capiche?

Well my tale regarding the Birthday Party is not one I'm proud of, but you have specified that you want folks' experience regarding them so here goes. Firstly, I was too young to see them live, which is a shame. Secondly, I acquired a couple of their discs through pure theft. I stole a copy of "Prayers On Fire" from a public library and I stole a copy of "The Peel Sessions" 12" from an old housemate who didn't deserve to own it because they were an pretentious posing idiot. Oh, and they tried to strangle me prior to the said theft, so it was payback as far as I'm concerned.

I'd never steal anything from a library now, I think it's an apalling thing to do, but if I was in the unfortunate position of having to live in a shared house again, I may lift a cool item from someone who attemtped to squeeze my throat pipes.

My fave songs are "Mr Clarinet" from "Release the Bats" 12" ep, which I bought, and probably "Nick the Stripper" from "Prayers..." which as you know, I didn't ...

Living in Orange County during the early 80's punk & post punk era was fun. I was 15 in 1981, all the male friends were musicians from one band or another. My boyfriend was different than the other guys. He exposed me to much more interesting music. I instantly dug the Birthday Party! I actually bought tickets to see them at the Roxy in Hollywood, Fall 1982? In those days many of us got in free just for being cool. That was a super show! I also bought the Prayers on Fire album. There were few albums that I was willing to buy. I also bought tickets for the Virgin Prunes but they didn't show up. L.A. had it's own scene of musical talent. It was very clear at an early stage, the Chili Peppers were going to be a cut above. I am very grateful for these fansites so I can hear tunes from my teen years, my old albums that can no longer be played.
