I was on another site and ran across a blog about the violence in Philly.

Along with replies like "The word of GOD is the answer and "It's the videos/music" I added my lil two cents...

There's a huge cocktail of things to blame. The one that stands up front for me is the lack of positive role models. Mothers not showin their children (daughters) what it means to be respectful and productive to society. Not re-productive. Fathers not showing their children (Sons) real values in life. What a man should look like. Unfortunately, the youth of today have nothing to compare a man/woman to. The parents are so young now-a-days, they never get a chance to know who they are before they have to pass on what little they learned to their children.

I honestly believe the adults of the late 70's began to lose the grip on the youth, giving birth to GENERATIONX. By mid 80's when a lot of the fathers that were in jail were released, they passed on to their children what they knew..."Do what you gotta do to survive!" The words of wisdom flooding the streets to justify doin the WRONG thing. "Convert to Muslim now so when you get locked up you will be protected!" A false sense of protection, thus instilling jail bound mentality.

"He wasn't your man last night!" It's okay to be a sleez as long as you got a catchy phrase for it. "If he ain't got no money he don't get no honey!" Don't wait for love, give it to the first one that comes along with more money than you. "At least I got man!" As long as you got a man, you're okay. Nevermind the black eyes!

I can go on for days about the things that I would hear going over friends' house and being in weed smoking circles. All of these things beat into the heads of my generation is one ingredient that produced the parents of today's violent Philadelphia!

Then there's CRACK....

WOW... you said a mouthful... This is a prime example of the universal problems we all deal with. This proves that my story is no different then yours therefore everyone is infected by the same problems no matter where you live or where you from. The problems are the same because they effect us all.

And then there's crack...

So powerful Dozi,

Thank you for seeing the light
