LET'S SET IT STRAIGHT...THROW IT DOWN
It has been a whirlwind past 6 months for everyone in Orooni, our fans, and our extended family across the country as the band dealt with major personal and professional issues. However, all of the negative junk has been left behind and the band is excited to be pushing forward with a triumphant return to the stage this March and beyond!
That's right...Orooni has already confirmed one Colorado March date, one summer festival in July, and has several more shows being worked on right now for the immediate future. More details will be following soon.
HI MY NAME IS BRAD
Orooni fans will notice something has changed about the lineup of the band as Brad Loucks has been selected to replace Gwen Grimes on keys. Brad began jamming with Stu in their jazz side project, the Hugh Jazz Combo, and there was an instant musical bond, eventually leading to an impromptu jam session with the rest of Orooni and friends. The band loved the flavor Brad added to the group and was asked on the spot about joining.
Brad has a diverse musical background/education that he brings to the group, really funking things up more than ever and layering more color on Orooni's progressive rock, funk, and trans-genre tunes. Brad also brings a new positive energy to the group, as well as fresh ideas and collaborations that have already altered the bands sound in brilliant ways. Orooni fans can look forward to a lot of new material that Brad has introduced.
SIDE PROJECTS
With time off from Orooni, Phil, Allan, and Stu have all joined side projects playing in the Front Range and more:
Stu Crair (drums) has formed 'The Hugh Jazz Combo' with Brad Loucks (as stated above), and earned a weekly residency at The Crown Pub in Ft Collins. 'The Hugh Jazz' plays EVERY WEDNESDAY NIGHT from 7-11pm for FREE in the basement of the Crown. Other players include Kalin Capra (Victor Barnes) and Evan Wiegel (Funkiphino) as well as numerous special guests sitting in such as Phil (Orooni) and Charlie Humhpreys (Holy Moses and the High Rollers). Come join some of the Fort's best musicians playing standards and jazz-fusion greats playing every Wednesday night.
Allan Borukhovich has filled the vacant bass position for Prism, another one of Fort Collins' young, talented bands. Prism recently won the Battle of the Bands for a slot to play at Wakarusa Music Festival this summer. All Prism shows and details can be found at
www.prismfunk.com.
Finally, Phil Salvaggio (guitar) has formed a rockin side project with some old friends called 'The Foot Clan'. TFC has several scheduled shows upcoming across the front range and be sure to come check em out. Music and info can be found at
http://www.myspace.com/footclanband.
So, after Allan's broken wrist, a lineup change, a MySpace sabotage (story for another day), and a lot of uncertainty, Orooni can't wait to jump back on stage in the Fort this March and beyond.
We hope to see you all boogyin' down at an upcoming Orooni show very soon.
Peace and music,
Orooni
