Thank you for taking the time to sit
down with me Jo. I appreciate you taking a few minutes out of your busy
schedule for me.
With things heating up all over, it is
a perfect time for some of your new music to be getting played! Do you
think that we could talk a little bit about some of your new music? Yes, we can talk about anything you want Hip.
First of all, I would like to say that
I personally love the new songs, especially Hillbilly Chick and Summer
Nights. Can we expect more songs like this on the new album? On this new album, I’m
trying to show you a more mature side of Jo, which is hard. But yes, a mature side!! Just trying to put 10 to 12 strong songs on a
CD that kicks ass from beginning to end with rocking songs to some drinking
songs to them love songs.
You mentioned a new CD coming soon; can
you tell us a little bit about it, like a title perhaps? I don’t have a title as
of yet. It’ll come to me. "Piggy
Back Ride" had big meaning behind it.
"Cant You Smell What’s Cooking" had a lot of meaning behind
it. So, I’m sure whatever title I come
up with will have a lot of meaning behind it. Maybe you or the fans could help
with a title for the new album?????
How much new music will be on this album? How much new music will
be on the new album?? Well it will be all
new such as, Already Gone, Nashville, Hillbilly Chick, Summer Nights, Whiskey
Richard, Outta Bed, Roll Around In The Hay and plenty more songs that are
already done. Some songs which still
need to be recorded too. By the way, we’re kicking ass trying to get these done
so everyone has a new JoCaine CD to listen to!!
I am assuming that since you are
leaning towards Country, the new CD will be Country sounding, or should we
expect a mixed sound similar to Can’t You Smell What’s Cookin? Like I said, I’m maturing
with my music, or at least I’d like to think so. I know that a lot of people loved Piggy Back
Ride, but I just haven’t got that itch to write another Piggy Back Ride. I mean I don’t see nothing wrong with it if I
did, but I’m leaning more towards the Hillbilly Chick type songs and Summer
Nights along with Outta Bed, Backroads etc.
When will the new CD be available from
your web store and iTunes? I’m shooting for the new CD to be available by end of the
summer. I’m hoping for end of July, but I
want it to be right. I don’t want to
rush anything and I want everyone happy and to love what I’m doing.
As good of response that you get to
Alice Cooper’s “Be My Lover,” do you have any plans to do another cover song or
two? As for
covers on this one, I don’t know. I’m
not finished yet writing it so who knows. I have a few in mind that I really like but, like
I said, who knows.
Speaking of success, “Neck of the
Woods” gets great response. Do you have any plans to work with any other
stars like you did with Uncle Kracker, Kassie Jordan, Alto Reed and MC Breed? Ya know, I’d like to have
a few people on this album, but again, the song hasn’t presented itself yet. I usually get an idea and run with it! Ya know Hip, I might have a bunch of stars on
this album, but I don’t think I’ll need anyone on this one. It’ll be a great album for everyone!!
With some really big opportunities
coming in the next couple of months, how do you plan on capturing new fans at
events such as the Tim McGraw show and other highly visible spots? Yeah we’ve been hooking
up some really big shows this summer! I’m pumped!! It’s a great opportunity to capture the other
fans that don’t know about the Caine Train!
I feel all we have to do is play in front of anyone and we got them hook
line and sinker. We usually hold our own
with anyone out there.
How about the band? There have
been some obvious changes in it. Yeah, ya know music’s an
up and down rollercoaster ride and with musicians to keep the same guys is a
task of its own. I know that this project comes first and if it’s not number
one in your books then it will be time to change guys, band, whatever it takes
to keep a strong team together. Just
like in anything if you put the work in you get the results. With a lot of great talented musicians out
there, you gotta rise above them. I
think our band rocks! Great guys, talented and most of
all we have a good chemistry! I think
the guys you see now will be with me for a while. I’ll keep moving forward with great tunes and
great shows!
Switching gears a bit, I know that
family is very important to you. How do you cope with being away when you
go out on the road? Ya know it’s hard, but that the business. When you’re on the road, you have your band
which is just like family. But, you’ll
always miss home and your loved ones no matter what! I have a family that I miss if I’m gone
throughout the day, so yes, it’s hard. But
you gotta do what you gotta do; it makes you love them that much more when you
get home!!
Being a Detroit celebrity, I am sure has its
benefits. Is there any downside to it? Well, I’d say, here in Detroit
and throughout Michigan,
a lot of people know of JoCaine. It’s a
good time and yes, I love it when someone out of the blue comes up and says: "JoCaine, you
rock!!" or "I love your music!" That’s why I do what I do. Yeah you get hooked up here and there and it
does have perks! I actually love it so I
couldn’t say its bothers me at all. I
wish it was magnified times ten! I wish Detroit would stick
together a bit more then what we do, but hey, no complaints!!
Knowing you, I can tell personally that
most of your songs are about your experiences and adventures in life. Are
there any stories that you would like to tell that you have not shared about
any songs that you have written? Well you’re right. All my songs are written from experience. It’s just like telling a story about a night
out or something you’ve experienced and put it into a song. I love doing that. Well, this song "Whiskey Richard"
was about a night out and all the fellas can relate to this! You drank a little too much and couldn’t
perform with the chick you had in your bed.
So I couldn’t call the song "Whiskey Dick," so I called it
"Whiskey Richard" and we all know Dick is short for Richard!! That
is a great story! Anyways it’s a good
song that I wrote with Mike P. out of Nashville,
but yeah I have a lot of stories so I guess that’s why I write good songs.
Speaking of experiences, you have been
in this music business for quite some time now, but what about the
future. I know that you have big hopes, but how about the next year.
Where would you like to be, musically, one year from now? I’m hoping with these new
songs and big shows we catch the eye of someone out there. I know we have what it takes to stand on any
stage with anyone. I’m hoping I can hit
big make some great songs for the world to hear, make a mark in this business,
take care of a lot of people, and sit back and keep making great music. Songs that touch home with everyone!!
We are all proud of what you have done
so far. As fans, we have to make sure to do our part to help too.
The show at the Emerald Theater was a huge success. Do you have any
charity events similar to that coming up in the near future? As for charity events, I love doing them. Makes ya feel good as you get a name out
there. People always want you to be a
part of some charity event, and this being my job; you can’t take them all on. Which I’d like to, but I do my part and my
band always is down for a charity event, even though we too have bills stacked
high! Times are tough, but hey it’s nice
to all come together for these types of events!
Thanks again for taking the time to sit
down with me. Is there anything else that you would like to say to the
fans that will be reading this? Well first of Hip, thank you for all you’ve done
and the help with the sites and everything else you do! As for everyone reading
this, I’m very sincere when I say this I can’t thank you true fans enough for
all the support over the years! Without
you, I wouldn’t be where I am today! Sounds
cliché when I say that, because a lot of artists do, but I mean it! It takes you guys to push an artist,
spreading the word and bugging the radio relentlessly, contacting everyone ya
know. One man can’t compare to an army, so thank you guys with all my heart,
and yes, I have a thank you song that will be on the new CD to my fans and
friends so make sure you get to www.iTunes.com/JoCaine
and pick up a song or two! And
regardless of anything, even if you already have a shirt, buy one for someone
else from our web store thank you all!!
Thank you again, Jo. I speak for all of us when I say thank you
for doing what you do so well! Also, we
can’t wait for the new CD! I have an
idea for the new title, but want to see what the other fans suggest!!
Keep on Rockin’ in the “D” World!
