Ohhh yes... Discussions and debates. Here's my take on ethical leadership:....1. Ethical leadership is an every day occupation. Can't just do it when it's popular or when there's hot-button topics. As long as we've got lost children, we've GOT to have ethical leadership available. And I mean VOCAL ethical leadership.....2. Ethical leadership can't play the fence. Ethical leadership has to do what's right regardless if it's popular or not. Why? Because if not, then down the road when thick gets thick, people will look back to when the leader was sitting on the fence and call him a hypocrite, using that as an excuse not to follow him.....3. Shame on every one who has ever passed responsibility to anyone else. That's the very reason Black history damn near stood still when MLK was assassinated. We ALL should be leaders and stop looking to individuals to lead us to the promised land. The only individual worthy of that sort of following is Jesus Christ himself; anyone else is prone to falter.....4. Ethical leadership maintains integrity. That means, if the trend is unscrupulous, he'd rather not be popular... scratch that. That means, if the trend is unscrupulous, then he determines to set a NEW trend.....5. Understanding is crucial. Ethical leadership can't just see things from one perspective. He's got to be able to identify with the oppressed AND the oppressors. Because the oppressors need to be freed of corruption just as much as the people they step on. Ethical leadership can't just complain about the status quo, but has to understand the elements that came together to create it.....6. Ethical leadership has to be more about finding solutions than placing blame. All blame does is divert energy to personal beefs and tensions while the problem itself goes untended. Ethical leadership has to have enough humility to weed pride and personality out of the foray and concentrate on the underlying forces at work.....7. Ethical leadership doesn't burn needless bridges. If there are conflicts of interest, ethical leadership has to be able to appreciate the good even in the bad and attempt to salvage what can be salvaged from the relationship. Only rarely should there be total dismissal of the input and contributions of others, because an ethical leader realizes that he himself has or undoubtedly will evenutally fall short.....To sum it up in a nutshell, the example of Jesus Christ represents ethical leadership in the highest. The book Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire is also exemplary in sketching what we should look for in ourselves as leaders; I say 'ourselves' because, again, we shouldn't be passing responsibility when confronted with social dilemmas.....Looking forward to the continuing discussion!..B.Cataclysmic..

: ) Great points... .. ..A person's ethics are based on a system of moral beliefs about right and wrong, which is generally learned at home first... **So when you put people in leadership positions do your research about them and don't go on what they promise to do or not do**....Whether you're ethically conforming to standars of social, professional or personal behavior, a person usually always adhere to the moral principles they were taught. And yes people can be raised in a proper home and pick up unethical principles and not follow honorable course of action. However, people need to stop SOLEY accussing the media, celebrities or outside influences for the moral content that their children learn.... ethical leadership STARTS AT HOME....Also, just because a person is taught the right beliefs at home, it don't mean they will be perfect; But I do believe they will know how to handle a situation when they do wrong or make mistakes.....(Proverbs 22:6) " Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." ..

from some of these comments, it makes great sense!! i noticed that ever since barack obama was elected president, people have been waiting on solely him to make actions. that act is not gonna last long! we gotta make our own actions and following malcolm x, "by any means necessary", we should be committed in what we trully believe in. there are folks in other countries that would fight to get the education that some of us take for granted. just think about SWAG, and i'm not talking about coogi or gucci, im talking about Study, Work, And Grow (for students specifically, its Study, Work, And Graduate). ..
