YESTERDAY’S PAPERS – WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN’ GOING ON EDITION
Wed. Aug 12th 2009
Wow is this shaping up to be a mega busy week/weekend with tons of great shows going on. Tonight Dungen w/ Woods and Brainbow, CDR Year VI anniversary events on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dudelocker fest on Friday 6pm to 3am, St. Moses The Black 7” release show Friday and all that is happening the same weekend as our Lost Weekend Super Summer Spectacular shows on Friday and Saturday.
If you can’t find something to do this weekend you sure aren’t looking very hard. We hope that at some point this weekend you’ll make it out to one or both of shows.
Well on with the news:
LOST WEEKEND SUPER SUMMER SPECTACULAR:
Yep, this Friday and Saturday we will be hosting at Ruby Tuesdays (1978 Summit) our annual summer bash. This year we have 13 bands, over two nights promising you one great time.
Here are the line-ups for each night:
Friday Aug 14th:
8pm - J.P.S. Brown (this is a new band featuring JR from James & James, Scott from Locusta and and another dude whose name I am forgetting, sorry..)
9pm - The Kyle Sowashes (5 guys named Kyle, but none are me)
10pm - Mount Carmel (Columbus's own Cream, Mike Repp has been recently recording them)
11pm - Sin Nombre (Artie and Co, metal style)
Midnight - Night Family (formerly known as Nakamura Lock same band new name, Marcy Macy, Geoff Ortlip, Darrin Brown, Jeff Plavcan and Pat Murphy)
1am - The Skilletlickers (Chris Barton from Bubba Ho-Tep's project with a revolving cast of players. Trivia note I have know Barton since the 2nd grade, way back).
Saturday Aug. 15th:
8pm - Sonic Roach Destruction Unit (Happy Hour Set). Recently got rave reviews for their latest Cd "Bully Defense Mechanism" in both the Dispatch and the Other Paper, plus wiccans love them.
9pm - Columbus Power Sqaurdron, everyone's fav cover band, plus for this show only their will be a rare appearance by a 3rd, Wyatt. True stuff I would not make that up.
10pm- Day Creeper - Possibly my favorite Columbas band to form in the past year.
10:30pm- a new band with no name, yes I have a new band with myself and Mark Deane and Kerry Stewart who both played with me in Second State Butchers and Jeff from Mors Ontologica on bass, Plus Mark Deane played in my fav Columbus band of all time, Pica Huss. This will be out 1st gig with this new line-up. We are looking for a name and taking suggestions.
11:00 pm Moviola - This has been a busy summer from Moviola, they don't play out much but this will be their 3rd and I think final show of the summer.
Midnight - Times New Viking - you all know who they are, This is their only scheduled summer show in Columbus (other than opening for The Breeders later in the month), they are actually out with the Breeders right now as I type this. From Sept. to the end of November they will out on a big tour, a few weeks in Europe then the states, so it will be a while until you can see them in a club this size again. I don't think they have played Ruby's for a few years.
Nukkehammer - a new project of Matt Miner (Teeth of the Hyrda) and Dennis (Black Dove). They play 17 minuets no more no less. They will be LOUD!!!!
Each night doors at 7pm and music starts at 8pm, 8 means 8 don’t be late, happy hour prices until 9pm.
