Whattup yall, I'm writing you on my super fast 56K modem in Athens, Greece... I have family in Athens and Crete and sometimes I have some down time, so why the hell not? I just got back from Crete yesterday, me and my father were there for the majority of our trip and I'm already missing it. You see, Athens is like a less functional, less fun version of Manhattan...I'm not a big fan of it. Crete is the promise land....it's the biggest island in Greece, it has a great old harbour (video will be uploaded later) there is a big lighthouse and tons of restaurants, bars and caffenios are right on the water....If you like a crazy, busy, vacation with tons of people from all over the world, go in August, if you like something a little bit more low key, go in either June or early September.....about 60 kilometers away from the old harbour is where my grandparents lived....way up in the mountains, thousands of feet, very little guardrailes, very narrow roads, very few people...but....tons of greenery and peace.Papadiana - 2001 wikipedia says the population was 14. I think the population now is 1 and a half. 1 man and 1 goat. I usually fight with my father when he wants to go to the village beause there is literally nothing to do....unless a 20 minute walk to a small coffee shop inhabitted by 3 greek men that have 2 teeth collectively tickles your fancy. (pardon my grammer and runons, I never graduated high school, school is for fools)...but I digress yo,.....so anyway, it's been 10 years since I've been to the village and it's time to go again....this time I love it....I love the peace and quiet, seeing real people live their modest lives, surviving up in the mountains....everything they eat, they either killed or picked that day....It's not so inviting that I want to become a hippy and move to the mountains for the rest of my life, but it's inviting enough to make me think about my life in a very hallmarky way and to think about what really is important....and compare it to how I was thinking before I got on the plane.....basically every minute I was there it made think about how much longer I could tolerate living in Hollywood....but after 3 days, as beautiful as the place is, I get antsy, I'm only 14 for god's sake....I have a lot more to see than the beautiful mountains of Crete....but just a warning, when I finally make my trip to Japan, you might never hear from me again (LOLZ)......sorry if this post was incoherent, I have a lot of great thinkgs to tell you about this place and sometimes my thoughts are jumbled. Check out my pictures if you haven't already, that's the Village Papadiana, in the mountains of Crete. Home of the world's best olive oil, tsikoudia and a bunch of other great things. This village is the reason why I hate salad in America, the tomatoes aren't red here, they are rainbow and the taste like mother nature's sensual lips. YUM. Extra points for anyone who posts a picture of my favorite beach in crete, (elafonisi). For my real life friends in LA, I'll be back around October 7th.
peace
Andy
