Ok, so pretty much on a daily basis mail comes in my various social networking inboxes asking me "Where did
Trash Me go? Did you know Britney did a song that sounds just like yours?!" or "Why did you take
Trash Me down off of your myspace?"... I have ignored these kinds of messages up until now, but I do feel like I owe my
fans an explanation.
Let me put it this way: "Trash Me" has been TRASHED- literally and figuratively.
I wrote Trash Me over 2 years ago while I was still in my old band Shut Up Stella, with the intentions of shopping it for another artist to cut. However, I then realized I sounded way better than any of the unmentionable artists who attempted to sing it... and also realized I wanted to stop making rock/rap music and start making pop music, so I kept it for myself.
I then worked my ass off and saved up enough money to
independently write, produce and finance my own
music video for it. With about $3,000 and lots of favors I created
this and am still very proud of it :D
I felt like I was on fire! If I could create such a kick ass video without a label's help, then I could surely go to radio without a label's help right??? Wrong. In fact not only wrong, but virtually impossible today.
Sometime in between all of this, "Trash Me" was circulating around the industry and getting lots of buzz. So much buzz, that I was flown to Sweden to write and record with some other unmentionables for a week. A couple of okay songs came out of the trip, but I didn't have the same connection with the unmentionables that I did with Xenomania. So I signed to Xenomania and began working on my debut album.
Fast forward a few months, and a little tune called Trash Me "If U Seek Amy" comes out by Britney Spears, which was funny enough stolen written by these same Swedish unmentionables I had thought were my friends. Of course, Britney being on a major label was able to do something I could not do, go to radio with my song go to radio with her song, and thus ruin any chance I had at releasing my ORIGINAL material. To add even more salt to the wound, Heidi Montag decides to murder cover my song, and gets more recognition than I ever did for my own art.
So you see people, "Trash Me" has become a bit tainted for me, and to be honest a bit old! I've always prided myself on being ahead of the sound, and really feel like the songs I am writing with Xenomania are the future of pop! :D
Thank you for all the love you are showing "Standing Up For The Lonely"! I'm so glad you all love it! And I can't wait for you to hear the other pop smashes we are currently cooking up!
So in closing, I leave you with this: facts are facts, and karma is a bitch.
