Jumoke, Elizabeth & Daniella belong in Birmingham!
We, the undersigned, urge the Secretary of State to intervene in the case of
Jumoke Adediwura and children Elizabeth & Daniella Omojowo
Home Office no. A1327520
Currently detained in Yarls Wood Detention Centre. She was took in the early hours of March 1st.
Jumoke fled Nigeria in 2002 due to the unspeakable violence she was suffering, she feared for her life constantly. She suffered at the hands of what she called 'my people' for her Christian beliefs.
(U.S.A: Country Reports on Human Rights Practices - Nigeria 2006
The government's human rights record remained poor, and government officials at all levels continued to commit serious abuses. The most significant human rights problems included; domestic violence and discrimination against women; female genital mutilation (FGM); child abuse and child sexual exploitation; societal violence; ethnic, regional, and religious discrimination; and trafficking in persons for the purposes of prostitution and forced labour.)
Through fear of being deported she didn't claim asylum until 2006. This was refused along with subsequent appeals & she has recently been refused leave to appeal for a Judicial Review of her case. She has two lovely children, Daniella 2 and Elizabeth 3. They were both born here in England & both attend the local Children's Centre. Elizabeth has special needs and is currently under assessment.
(Children are targets of Nigerian witch hunt (The Observer, Sunday December 9 2007)
Evangelical pastors are helping to create a terrible new campaign of violence against young Nigerians. Children and babies branded as evil are being abused, abandoned and even murdered while the preachers make money out of the fear of their parents and their communities.)
Jumoke has built a new life since settling in Birmingham. Until she was detained she was currently studying ESOL, was attending a positive parenting course and attended many groups and workshops in the community. She has become a part of community life and has many friends in the area. Jumoke attends The Redeemed Christian Church where she is loved and respected by the congregation and plays an active role in the life of the church.
The Secretary of State has an opportunity to use her discretion to end Jumoke, Elizabeth & Daniella's suffering, to be released from detention and allow them to spend the rest of their life in peace and safety in a community where they are valued and respected.
