CRONICLE OF THE CONCERT OF HOT LEG
(by Wildgirlsins for La Estadea)
I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED ROCK
HOT LEG
25 TH April
Camden Crawl Festival,
The Underworld (Camden Town, London)
Camden
Town, the cradle of rock of the British capital, was the headquarters
of Camden Crawl festival, that for two days offered shows in more than
in 30 venues, with local and classic acts, and included other
activities. There marched artists such as The Fall, Yeah Yeah Yeahs,
Kasabian, Echo & The Bunnymen, or Billy Bragg, but what we
witnessed more than eager was the performance of Hot Leg before their
date in Kobetasonik. The guys of the hot leg bragged of more than 80’s
stylesque looks in a packed venue with people wanting to have fun.
If
as the frontman of The Darkness showed what he could do, as the head of
Hot Leg, Justin Hawkins goes even further. Dressed with a catsuit in
black leather all tacked, he impressed with his style, his
professionalism, the perfection of his vocals of castrati, and his
skills on guitars, which it’s more than remarkable when the audience
hindered the development of the show. From the beginning, some fans
wouldn’t stop using the stage as diving board to jump over the crowd,
and he surprised us inviting them to join the performance; he only made
the stay dependant on one term: whoever wanted to stay in his stage had
to take the tee out, even girls. The biggest exhibition came when one
fellow walked around nude and, maybe used to the excesses of Wimbledon,
nobody even winked.
It was an intense and feverish hour in which
they introduced the songs of their debut album in extended versions.
There weren’t missed I’ve Met Jesus, Gay In The 80’s, You Can’t Hurt Me
Anymore, not even the final shot of Cocktails, absolutely spectacular.
In a scene were some local rockers think themselves Jon Bon Jovi
because they are famous in the corner of their street, Hot Leg offers
the alternative of a irreverent and parodic rock Farinelli meets Van
Halen, Scissor Sisters meets Pointer Sisters, and cock rock meets
Christian rock.
If Justin Hawkins is one of the scarce remaining
superstars, who come by his side is an exceptional Court: the hammer
guitarist Pete Rinaldi; the gunman drummer Darby Todd; and the archer
bassist Samuel SJ Stokes.
It’s thrilling to imagine how they
would be like in front of a crowd of thousands. We’ll check it on June.
No doubt they could own the slogan “because I’m worth it”.
Eager to see you back in Kobetasonik!!!
CHEERZ,
