Parasitic Extirpation are a relatively new band hailing out of the US, born from the ashes of PORPHYRIA, and playing slammy, guttural death metal with a good balance between technical insanity and groove-laden slams. This is their first release, and comes very well packaged for a debut EP, with professionally printed CD art and card insert with logo and CD information.A nice touch, lending to the very proffessional air around this release, even though it is only a four track EP. The first three tracks provide well played, though hardly original, US brutal death metal, with a good level of technicality and diverse song structure. However, this diversity of structure, along-side the solos and pinches which seem to come from nowhere and end just as quickly, gives some parts of the tracks a disjointed feel. Hopefully, further releases will see this problem ironed out. The final track comes as a bit of a surprise- almost two-minutes of classical acoustic guitar playing (specifically Fernando Sor's Etude in B Minor). Reminiscent of the instrumental track Adulteration from GUTTURAL SECRETE's debut masterpiece, Reek of Pubescent Despoilment, this however does not work quite as well. This is probably due to the fact it comes after only 3 tracks, and serves as a kind of outro. Guttural Secrete, on the other hand placed it as the penultimate track of their full-length, which served as an interesting breather before the listener was plunged back into brutality. This track too would most likely have worked better used near the end of a full length. This is a good, solid release which shows a lot for the bands level of skill, maturity and professionalism, and I look forward to hearing more.
