here's the rundown on our new album
first of all, it's done
there are 9 tracks, and it's all new
It is entitled "What It Is"
These are the tracks-
1. Step Back
a lay-back, funk thing that is a nod to Allen Toussaint
2. Thursday
almost 'Steely Dan-ish' but, uh, positive
3. What Goes On
the early morning re-telling of one crazy night that encapsulates just "what" it's all about & a trumpet solo...& dobro
4. Red
a newer song with a splash of reggae, some jazzy chords, and an emphasis on Redness
5.On The Road To Memphis
written while returning from a weekend at bonnaroo, it is a tribute to the way Ray Charles took his own thing & married it to country with so much soul
6. Naturally
snappy one about puddles of rain & sushi bars, which we know plenty
7. Ooh Look A'Here
you take a ZZ-Top-type shuffle, add some noir trompete, and graft a story about Yuma, Arizona, the Border Patrol, and voila
8. It's A Done Deal
a rocker loosely related to the time our drummer shoved this dude who'd become friendly with his ex, "you took a little more than you intended to take"
9. You Don't Need No Love Songs
a chance to stretch out, check the drum'n bass, some jazzy guitar, and a flute solo, followed by flugel into the ether
In the very near future, we'll be throwing a CD-release party. Check here for all the latest info. We love to play and that's "What It Is."
