I recently went through a phase during which I was completely obsessed with the Stooges, so I'd be remiss if I did not mark the passing of guitarist Ron Asheton. He was found dead today, having apparently suffered a heart attack. Iggy Pop got all the glory, but Ron's brutal riffs were an irreplaceable part of what made that band one of the greats. I interviewed Ig a while back and asked him how long the Stooges would stay together. He laughed and said, "Until one of us croaks." Well, it was funny then.
