Current mood:  bummed
When I heard the news this morning I think a part of my soul died.
The local news paper read "Piedmont blues guitarist, singer John Cephas dies."
I actually had the pleasure of meeting and talking with John, and the first thing that you think is Wow!!! He absolutely loved to meet and spend time with the people that loved his (our)  music...tha blues. On stage John could flat blow tha roof off. His baritone voice was warm and inviting. His fingerpicking effortless. He could captivate an auditorium full of people with his voice and an acoustic guitar.
Oh yeah, and his laugh (Lord, I will never forget his laugh!)...it was contagious!!!
I  love John Cephas. He has been a musical mentor, hero, and blues historian.
God bless you John, Rest in peace........
Thank you for touching my soul...

Lord yes what a huge talent we have lost this week!!! He kept that piedmont thing alive and going strong.... Not an easy genre of the blues to play on guitar and he did it effortlessly..... thank God he got to some reasonable notablility of fame before passing on and leaving a pretty good collection of his Music behind for generation to enjoy.... There were so many that played that style in Virginia/NC that never got recorded.... Music Maker is the other savior of this type of music and making sure that recordings are made and that the musicians themselves are taken care of....
