So here is the story as I like to remember it.
It all started today as I was leaving the cafeteria after my wonderful 25 minute lunch (yes, this is how long my lunch is). One of my students politely pointed out that I had dropped some of my oatmeal on the lap of my pants during lunch. I am sure it was while I was laughing hysterically at something one of my amusing co-workers had said to me. Anyway, back to my angel of a student, who pointed out that I had oats on my lap.
She said, "Missss you got crap on your pants"
I replied, "Well, I am sure it's not crap as I always make sure to wipe myself and wash my hands"
Her response was a blank look as she walked away. Thankfully one of my other students went and got me a wet towel and a dry towel to clean the oats or crap (still up for debate) from the front of my slacks. Of course the students wanted to know why I had oats or crap on my pants anyway. I told the truth "I was practicing my new career as a new age artist, only working the medium of oats." They of course got the joke since this was my advance class (you know future lawyers, doctors, and slackers of America).
But, they did not drop it. Some how we started talking about dropping food or spilling drinks. That is when one of the girls in class said…
"Ms. Sorocka that is how you know your diet is working"
My response was, "And how does that work?"
She said, "You see when you were chunkier the food fell on your stomach or chest, but now it can make it all the way to your lap."
The class roared with laughter, and I couldn't help but laugh too. The entire class agreed with her theory. Stating how if your waist decreases the food has a lesser chance of dropping on it. According to them it was simple physics (their words not mine).
Now as I sit her thinking, perhaps she is right. Maybe that is the best measurement for how much weight you have lost is how much food you find in your lap. Or maybe dropping food in your lap is the true diet? I will need to throw that question at them tomorrow during class.
For now I am just happy knowing that not only do I see the change in my body, but so does my third period class. I even have the stains on my lap to prove it.
