"Every year, thousands of animals, including pigs, goats, and monkeys, are used in exercises organized by the Department of Defense. Current exercises include shooting, stabbing, and burning live pigs; cutting goats' legs off with sharp shears; and poisoning monkeys with toxic chemicals—all to train medics on how to treat human injuries on the battlefield. These exercises are still being conducted on many military bases in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world, despite the availability of superior non-animal methods.”

Please join us in calling for an end to shooting, stabbing, poisoning, and mutilating live animals in trauma exercises now!

Yeah, the military is going to end the trauma on animals because we signed a petition. Why don't we start with ending human torture first?

since when are animal lives worth more than human lives?  regardless of petitions, beliefs and activists, wars will be fought.  if medics can train how to save lives on an animal, and use such training to bring a wounded soldier back home to this family, i don't see anything wrong with this training.

..It's by Peta? Then the petition screams bullshit.
Peta has shut down small animal care facilties in my area (nothrwest florida) with these petitions and a group of members has euthenized over 95% of adoptable pets in a facility located in Norfolk Virgina.
......http://salvomag.typepad.com/blog/2009/03/peta-killed-95-percent-of-adoptable-pets-in-its-care-during-2008.html..
Half of my family is in the military. If this was going on, they would've left a long time ago.
Peta's just doing this to start trouble. I hope these extremists get burned alive. Them and their senile president who should be in a nursing home.

Its really sad to me how meny people left horrible comments on here. Seriously? Animals deserve to live without being tortured just as much as humans. Its sick that some people are so full of hate. And worst then that, some people are just okay with this happening. Wow.

Anti-Flag is amazing for supporting this petition.

You should just be glad that you come from a country that fights wars so efficiently and believes that their people should still have a sense of freedom, because most americans don't understand that other warbound countries focus more towards their government. Besides, if these procedures will save human lives and bring them back to their families, I'd rather have a dead barn animal. And just for another point, the whole idea of peace is not natural to human behavior, and war not only brings out the worst in people but also the most innovatative ideas there are. It's not until you threaten someones existance that they will really stretch their mind and come up with brand new ideas, industries, products, and ways to protect their own people. Some great men started this country, and they would still be proud of it today.

Superior non-animal methods don't replicate the entire experience of treating combat trauma, and hence are not superior. Its too easy for combat medical personnel to detach themselves from the psycological effects of treating combat trauma when training with a "dummy". There is currently no way to replicate the sounds, smells, and sights associated with the psycological factor of trauma treatment without using a live subject, and to be honest I would rather use an animal than a person for this very fact. Using a "dummy" casualty doesn't effeciently train our medics. You don't get physiological response from inorganic training aids. The animals that are used, are used because they not only have extremely similar psycological responses to combat trauma, they have similar physiological responses to both trauma and treatment. PETA needs to take a step back and look at the situation from a logical standpoint, and hopefully when they do they will STFU. This is just ridiculous. Live tissue training is what helped me save a Marine back in 2006 here in the states. If I hadn't received that training I would not have been able to help and that Marine may have very well died waiting for EMS. This is some serious BS.
