IN THA UMBRA "Thus Open Thine Eerie Wings Like An Eagle and Soar The Winds Of Chaos" CD 2009 (Agonia) 10/10

IN THA UMBRA is one of the very few original metal bands who are able to combine different styles into one unique complex....making you travel like on a chessboard, with unawaited switch-overs from furious death-grind up to mellifluous ambient...or down tempo funeral doom metal. there is no name to qualify that band....and every passage here, even if coming unexpected...is savantly calculated...."Heonan Epiphainein" is propelling us back into the 70's with some 70's pre-metal...especially these hammon organs that give a unique feeling....then, with a progressive transition, we are moving ten years ahead in less than a minute with some more scandinavian mid 90's black death/like the pre-At The gates times and pre-Dissection times....then flating riffs. It is like the four seasons in one day....With IN THA UMBRA it is like at least five different styles of metal....in just one song! Isn't that freaking awesome..."Apsinthion Thirst" starts with Portuguese spoken words...and goes straight into mid tempo melodic death metal....but still a hypnotic climate of darkness....the sound of coming darkness! "Slough Ov Capricorn" is a very "progressive" song where accoustic and electric parts are creating a truly irresistible "musical landscape"where parts are building up on eachother, it is like you go from plateaus to mauntains....and from mountains to plateaus....and all the time with these breathtaking views....of vastness! "And Damnation's rash Bled fevers" got again these harmony guitar parts and then suddenly, unexpectedly, these more 70's parts...then these ballad-like guitars....a bit in a lullaby style....it is absolutely awesome....breathtaking..."A Cornucopia Regia" has this unique interlude of male and female voics spoken...then metal, then even parts of operetta....things i have NEVER EVER heard in metal before....this is simply majestic...this is supreme...IN THA UMBRA has released one of the BEST CD i ever heard in the Portuguese scene...and this band is SO underrated....hey...you are holding right here and right now....A TRUE GEM....In Tha Umbra is Portugal's BEST KEPT SECRET!
