I went home to Texas for Christmas this year. I did the usual southern thing I had Christmas dinner with my family, found out my professional baseball playing cousin may have taken steriods, and met my younger sister's 40 year old fiancee . That dinner included my favorite dessert "SWEET POTATO PIE". SWP just beat out Lemon Chess Pie an H-E-B classic (TX grocery store). Over the years I've noticed that when I haven't eaten Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner at home I've had to deal with all assortments of SWP substitutes peach, apple, and mince meat (fucking yuck). Then there's the worst of all "pumpkin pie". The relationship between SWP and pumpkin pie is like the relationship between Beyonce and Kelly Rowland. I don't get the popularity of pumpkin pie. It's sour and it leaves an disgusting after taste. What's weird is the dinners I've had without SWP would have sweet potato casserole and that is just wrong because the difference between the two is like a few eggs, cream and soul. When I asked about the pie I'd get a round about BS answer, or a laugh, or they would redirect me to that Kelly Rowland pie that they made the day before with pride. It's almost like SWP is not a real dessert or something. I blame the decline of respect for SWP on Domino. If you don't remember Domino then you should check out the videos down below before judging. Those of us that do remember him then you know "Ghetto Jam" and "Tales From the Hood" were two of his biggest hits. BUT one of his smaller (but still tight) songs was a little track called "Sweet Potato Pie". The song at the time was off the hook but after that people looked at SWP differently. It was no longer accepted into their homes as a perfect dessert but rejected for its nasty undertones. Do you think the song was worth the defacing of a hood classic?
