MIKE DILLON SIGNS ON AS MAJESTIC PERCUSSION ARTISTAUSTIN, TEXAS – July 10, 2009 – Percussion artist Mike Dillon will be playing Majestic mallet instruments for the remainder of Les Claypool’s “Of Fungi & Foe,” tour this summer.  In early June, Dillon tested a V7530G at the Jupiter Band Instruments, Inc. headquarters in Austin, TX.  He was impressed by the tone and feel of the instrument, and its rugged frame built to survive the perils of touring. He immediately began making arrangements to use the Majestic vibraphone later in the tour. During a stop in Tennessee, the Majestic V7530G 3 octave vibraphone and M6530P 3 octave marimba were delivered to the War Memorial auditorium in Nashville just after sound check.  Dillon unboxed the instruments, set them up, and put them onstage untested for that night’s performance.  The vibraphone was all that he hoped it would be in the context of the live show, and he was thrilled with the resonance and projection of the small marimba.  “Thanks to everyone at Jupiter/Mapex/Majestic for making this happen.  I love the instruments,” reported Dillon the next day. “I am excited! Our front of house engineer also loved that marimba.  I have to say, I have never played on an instrument that cut so well. Les even said that it was the first time he had to turn me down in his monitor.” Dillon has toured with Les Claypool on previous tours as a member of the Les Claypool Fancy Band. The “Of Fungi and Foe,” tour with Les Claypool continues up the East Coast, a few festivals in Canada, a European leg in November, finishing with Australia in December. Dillon stays active with several bands. His funk project Mike Dillon’s Go-Go Jungle released “Rock Star Bench Press,” in February and improv jazz band, Garage A Trois will release, “Power Patriot,” in November, touring the West Coast in support of it throughout December.  Clips from the new album are on the band’sMySpace page. Dillon also records and tours with Ani DiFranco.  Dillon’s other music projects includeCritter’s Buggin (Seattle, WA), The Dead Kenny G’s (Seattle, WA) , and Hairy Apes BMX (Austin, TX.)  For more information on Mike Dillon and upcoming gigs check out www.myspace.com/mikedillonpercussion.
