Hi guys ...

Well us Jinjer boys did a little TV show 2 weeks ago (MK LIVE on DSTV). It was an unplugged very stripped down performance of "What He Means".

Prime Circle were busy doing their track in the live room so we had to wait a bit in the coffee room.

My wife Fiona and son Riley were with me, and Ard decided to take his harmonica out and jam a little for Riley's amusement. After a few attempts Riley got the hang of it and jammed for half an hour ... so cute!! Ard gave the harmonica to Riley and he loved it all the way home.

We brought some candles, rugs, flowers and odd bits to the studio to make it feel more home-y. Ard's voice after doing two gigs the day before was immaculate and the band did the track in one take.

Anyway, cut to a week later and many beautiful harmonica solos by Riley in the car, I decided the Volvo needed a wash.
When grabbing Riley out of the car, I noticed his harmonica was under the seat ... but I left it there and we went shopping while they cleaned. After all was done I paid the guys, gave them a huge tip and off we went.

2 days later we were on our way to visit a friend when I thought Riley would love to jam on Ard's harmonica, looked under the seat and it was gone ... I freaked out. This was sentimental and stealing ... so now I'm pissed! I turned the car around and drove all the way to the car wash. My wife Fiona said it was pointless and I should not bother.

When arriving @ the car wash I walked straight to the guys I knew had cleaned the car and told them I wanted my son's harmonica back. The one guy said he kept it in his pocket by mistake and had it at home bla bla bla ... I told him I would be there in the morning @ 6.45am to fetch it or else!

Long story short ... I was there @ 6.45am and he gave it back to me. I pointed my finger at him and shook my head. I know this is a typical day in South Africa and most people would never have bothered going back.

Hopefully this will make him think twice before stealing. Maybe not, but I got my boy's harmonica back and he jammed all the way home. (He loves it!)

Moral of the story: don't give up on a lost cause and don't screw with my family!!! Ha!

Chat soon guys ... looking forward to Forbiden Fruits Festival in Cape Town (Worcester) on 13th November.

Bye,

Brent

..Glad you got it back.  I hear ya....I've been there.  I like the moral of your story and think I read this just when I needed it the most.  So many tell me my class is a lost cause because they are city kids.  I'm about to go to a hearing because of two students that used a razor....I put all my time, efforts, creativity, heart, mind and soul into these kids.  Sometimes I think everyones right (I'm nuts), and then sometimes I think about why I went into teaching and I think----I refuse to give up just because everyone else has.  So...I am glad you went back and fought for the harmonica.  Sometimes the little things end up becoming the biggest things in life.  Good for you.  I'm glad to see you are all doing well.  Good luck with everything!
......

........Take care....Robin..
